What problem did baseball sliding gloves solve?

Not looking gay. They’ve remedied it.

It starts in travel ball. Kids in kid pitch wear ankle and elbow pads because it looks cool. Someone came up with the sliding glove idea and players bought into it. Useless item that became a great money maker.

I jammed my fingers all of the time in H.S. and Legion ball. I always had to run with gloves in my hand because of it.

I wish the rule would be whatever you wear to bat, you have to keep with you while running the bases.

Having to call time to switch out 80% of your equipment after every hit seems silly to me.

I’m old as dirt and we used to just hold a handful of dirt if we wanted to keep a closed fist when running the bases. I remember when these first started being used some writer said it looked like they were ready to take a pot roast out of the oven.

No it wasn’t. It started in MLB. I don’t remember exactly who it was, but there was a few finger injuries close to each other. Their fingers got caught on the bag and bent them back and sprained or broke them. So these stupid arse oven mitts started popping it and as with everything that’s trendy, this useless piece of garbage was being used from MLB down to 9 year olds.


So little Johnny, you don’t run the bases fast enough to cause enough force on your finger to break it when you slide into a bag to justify wearing that idiotic fricking things.

As much as this board hates tourney ball, I’ll defend it. 98% of it is harmless and it’s just something fat parents of kids that aren’t very good like to come here and whine about. But I will NEVER defend that retarded looking shite.

That's called personal accountability. Batting gloves and an elbow pad is about all one needs. If you're having to wear a shin protector then maybe that batter has a swing problem.

They need to ban the elbow armor a la Barry Bonds because it gives guys no fear to stick body parts out over the plate (see Barbe and Sam Houston, the guys who get hit by pitches like they have a magnet)
