Crazy Johnnie’s Review/opinion

I used to go to this famous establishment 25 years ago. It closed and as many know, they re-opened and are trying to re-create the old popular place.
So, I was in Metairie on Wednesday and decided to check it out.
As before, a short, basic menu of the 8oz Filet, the Filet po-boy, grilled fish, BBQ shrimp and a couple of other things. I got the house special, the Filet Mignon with Crazy potatoes and as an appetizer, the BBQ shrimp.
Unfortunately, the potatoes were the best part of the meal. The steak was a low end cut that seemed more like a sirloin than a filet mignon. The shrimp were over cooked, probably by being placed in the almost boiling hot sauce and were almost impossible to peel. The sauce was a bit overpowering, but I know lots of people like it.
The service was fine, but he was obviously inexperienced and overwhelmed.
Overall, it’s about a 6.0 out of 10.

I went a few weeks ago, and the filet poboy was inedible and incredibly tough to chew. I’m almost convinced that they are not using filet mignon. Like you, the potatoes were the best thing to eat that day, followed by the BBQ Shrimp (ours turned out good).

They 100% serve top sirloin and call it fillet.

Is this restaurant pet friendly?

This place was terrible 25 years ago, it's just terrible and expensive now.

Based on what you wrote, how was it a 6?
I’m politely asking you to rethink your score

The poboy wasnt bad. But back in the day they had the same meat supplier as Ruths Chris. You were getting high quality beef that just wasnt aged. Now like others said its tough for filet. I don't think it's really beef tenderloin being served.

And that's what was great about it. The meat was actually good, and it was cheap. The concept isn't going to run long on nostalgia alone, without those 2 things remaining.

If that is a sirloin they are serving, it must be the worst grade of beef there is. I posted a video of my daughter and me not being able even pull the beef apart with our fingers.
This is a recipe for failure. I hope they are smart enough to realize their mistake, acknowledge it publically, apologize, and fix it.

They are getting roasted on Facebook daily. I’ve heard nothing but bad things.

I need to follow their page. I would love to read the comments.

Tried going a few weeks ago and it was a 2 hr wait so we walked out
I was always amazed they could serve filet so cheaply, the main reason they closed is because they could no longer do so.

If something is intentional then it is not a mistake. This is calculated and it appears it is failing. I've yet to find anyone who has had a good experience.

They’ve had immense problems with service since they started. One of which was not paying them.
They should have stayed as a pop up/ food truck deal. I don’t think the market is conducive to a brick and mortar “cheap steak” place. It was a great deal when it was $18. Now, not so much when the price point is right at $30

Damn. I’ve read several things negative about service. I was trying to chalk it off as being new, but it’s a lot now.
I’ve seen stuff about managers quitting and servers telling customers that it wasn’t their job to bring food out. LOL
