Annoyed with AMC theaters

Hell, maybe it's all theaters these days. Had the week off this week and went to 2 matinees. Got into the theater right at the movie "start time". 5 minutes of advertisements! 20 minutes of previews followed by 5 more minutes of advertisements. And then Nicole Kidman gives a 3 minute soliloquy about how amazing movies are.
If not for tor the gift card balance I had built up, I probably wouldn't have gone and probably would have been more annoyed, but in a time when theaters are struggling with bringing back audiences, I'd think they'd try to make the experience less annoying.

Skill issue. Movies have started 20 minutes past their show time for decades. Enjoy the ride or show up later.

I haven’t been to a movie theatre in prob 20 years.

Used to be +15 minutes was a safe time period to hit the litter box & then the concession stand… then it was 20. Now seems like a full 30?
Dang.
Dang.

To be clear, I don't necessarily mind the previews, just way too many of them. I paid for the movie but commercials and Nicole can fonk off.

Probably the reason for the advertisements.

You aren't wrong. Given their advertisements I generally plan on being there 20 minutes after the official start time

Why go to a movie theater?
Posted on 5/1/25 at 8:54 am to muttenstein
20 years ago when I worked for AMC management always said there were 20 minutes of previews, although that was before the 3 minute Nicole Kidman thing

The commercials don't bother me. And I rather like previews. But that Kidman commercial makes me irrationally angry for some reason.

There are a small number of movies that really benefit from being seen in the theater
I have a more unusual reason. I made the decision to get rid of home internet and cable and just see what I want at the theater. It means that I have to deliberately plan to spend time watching something instead of just automatically flipping on the television or computer

and Hollywood wonders why people aren't going to theaters anymore

You say this like advertisements aren’t completely integrated into every aspect of American life. Atleast you can plan and skip these and the advertisements are mostly for actual movies.

I agree about the 25 to 30 minutes of previews. sux
I went to see Warfare last week with a start time of 1:35pm at AMC. The actual movie didn't start till after 2:00pm.

It's also been like this for years. That's not the reason people stopped going lol.

Yes, they're all mixing in the advertisements throughout the previews. It is incredibly annoying.

it's not the advertising that's annoying. It's the scheduling and money
i like a few trailers but 25 minutes after the listed showtime is annoying as shite. I have to really want to see a movie in theaters to even bother anymore and i used to love going to the movies
you are asking people to $16 for a ticket. the least you can do is start the damn thing on time

Again the scheduling is on you. I walked into Sinners right as the movie started. It’s not that hard to add 15-20 minutes to when you plan on going.
Price has nothing to do with this conversation. I agree tickets are more expensive than they should be.

Again just seems like a skill issue here.

AMC states both on your ticket and when you check out that the movie start time will be 20-25 minutes after the stated start time. The movies do start on time, you just misunderstand when the starting time is
