Let's get this out of the way first: frick loomis. He got the Saints in this mess and should not be allowed to dig them out of it.

But, having said that, this team looks greatly improved on paper. They added players all over the place and it finally looks like they might have some depth again. They did not crush the draft, but it does not suck either. They got great value all over the place, but had some reaches. It's a solid B draft, but there is still a lot of work to do like getting a big WR and another TE/CB.

I know this is impossible on this board, but it's a solid wait and see situation. They will still be bad next year, but maybe not AS bad.

They did what they needed to do. Drafted smart with multiple possible starters and from what Ive read, most of these guys are high character leaders so that goes a long way.

We’ll have to wait on the WR, TE/CB. But that’s not a terrible thing. We plugged some holes.

They are actually going to be far worse than I thought record wise, Carr is much more prepared to deliver 7 plus wins this season vs Shough. We’re a 2-5 win team with Shough as rookie QB starter.

That said, I can understand the draft moves somewhat as we build for 26 and beyond.

I mean, other than Broughton and Shough, they kind of did lol that's what crazy. People are docking them SO much for Broughton and Shough. Shough, I get. Will be a divisive player for his entire tenure here most likely. Broughton was projected to be a 4th rounder but are we really saying they only had an OK draft because they selected a future QB and a DE a round early? It's an overreaction.

It's a much, much better draft than in previous seasons. MUCH. Does it make it an A+ ? No. But C+ grade is laughable.

It’s going to be a few years more than likely. Nothing has really changed. We’ve greatly improved on paper but so have the other teams.

upvote.

the only pick i would do differently is taking a CB or WR with pick 40 and roll with rattler this year.

hopefully i'm wrong and ckm really sees something with shough and didn't just pick him because we only have one real nfl type qb on the roster. would've just assumed taken ewers in the 5th or 6th as a backup to rattler, or better yet, sign wentz or bridgewater.

will be rooting for shough if he wins the job and hope for the best.

Broughton was a rising talent advocated by his former coach.

The draft class is solid and only time will tell how it shakes out.

What I’m excited about is the direction of the team.

Dennis Allen is gone! New coach in place.
First year I can remember we didn’t trade up and waste draft capital.
Didn’t reach for RAS studs, but we got good solid prospects that have a chance to fill out the team and build upon.
Didn’t get fancy and go for WRs and CBs. Concentrated on the lines and building from the inside out.

Like I said, I’m not as excited about any particular prospect. I’m excited because I’m actually seeing us move past “continuity” and onto team building.

The doom began the day Tom retired Drew in the dome and then played catch with his kids after the game. The doom continued as we wasted time on the journeymen Jameis and Andy.

But the real Doomsday was Monday, March 6th 2023. The day we hired Carrbage. The doom is here. We are currently sitting in it. We’ve BEEN sitting in it. It will be gone when we start winning again. We will be lucky to be competitive again in the next 3-4 years. That’s IFFF we hit on a Shough or Rattler and completely revamp our roster. And that in and of itself is wishful thinking

I thought they were reaches but if you look at the draft, Shough went at 40 and the next QB off the board was Milroe at 92 and then Gabriel at 94. Every team nearly picked twice before the next QB went after Shough. So any team in the market for a real QB likely would’ve been on Shough

DT was deep, Broughton doesn’t seem like a bad player but definitely was a reach I think

ETA not advocation for Shough, but if it’s the QB they liked, it was the right spot to take him
