New teaser for Alien: Earth. It is long for a teaser but most of it is an up-close view of the gestation of a new alien species. This is confirmed to take place in 2120, two years before Alien.

Updated because I mixed up the teasers.

Long Teaser added 4/30:

Timothy Olyphant is playing the lead’s synthetic protector/mentor. That was enough to sell me.

I cannot wait for this shite. I’d prefer a movie to a show, but I’ll take anything Alien set on earth.

Ummmm...

Timeline doesn't make sense.

Yeah, I get that this could be happening while the Nostromo is in deep space and out of contact, but it doesn't explain how there's no record of the species or issues on LV-426 at the beginning of Aliens.

Yeah, there's no history whatsoever of this franchise featuring either a young woman protagonist or a ragtag group. Why does Hollywood have to alter everything?

Hollywood is so unoriginal. There used to be creative people there. These days I could find more artistic vision in a preschool finger painting class.

Don't act like this happened organically.

At least Alien vs Predator tried to be different.

I get what you're saying and I tend to agree that that trope is extremely tiresome, but that is absolutely the Alien formula and has been for damn near fifty years

The question is: Will the male characters be competent, useful three dimensional characters, or merely buffoonish foils for the female lead to make her look that much more awesome?

Alien
Aliens
Alien3

All had solid, competent male characters and not just plot devices to make Ripley look even awesomer.

Resurrection went full blown parody with the idea (2 "strong females" and all the men were either pure evil or wholly incompetent [or both] to the point of caricature).

Prometheus
Covenant
Romulus

Have all trended towards the latter, typically with the only seemingly competent male being an artificial.

So, what will this be? Guess we will have to wait and see.

Yes, yes it was. I don’t know how I mixed that up.

This is the one I originally intended to be in the OP.

A few things.

1. I will watch new Alien/Predator content until I die.

2. I think the creator of this is the guy who’s done the Fargo series (so that’s exciting).

3. I’m pretty sure he said he’s not following the non-canon material in Prometheus and its progeny (also exciting).

Romulus is the third best movie in the franchise. I like where this is trending currently.
