The landscape company that treats my grass put down 35-0-7 fertilizer for the last application. Well, i don't know if it's related but my yard looks like absolute shite right now. I also have half of my backyard inundated with bermuda grass, and a bermuda/centipede mix looks like shite also.

I was doing some research and an article i came across said that repeat applications of high nitrogen will kill centipede. Seeing that 35 is the nitrogen factor, did the landscape guys kill my grass?

I have them coming by today to look at it.

I think it's likely but you would need to find out how much they put down. It's a calculation likely based on 1lb nitrogen per 1ksf per year. The Bermuda will love it though if they put way more.

Centipede is not a fast grower so using high N fert is a waste. If they put it out at 2lbs per thousand it wouldn't be too high but you'd get ineffective coverage. If they put it out at 4 then yes, that would be a heavy application.

Sounds like Trepp
If only these companies looked at the grass they’re treating rather than taking a one size fits all approach

I only put Milorganite (6-4-0) on my centipede.

Is that the best option? No.
Is it too expensive for what it is? Yes.
Am I stuck in my ways because it’s worked well for years and I’m scared to kill my centipede and allow common Bermuda to take over? Yes

Haha yes, Tifway in the back. HOA rule to have centipede in the front.

Edit to Add: Everyone started with centipede, but some have converted to weeds so I will install Bermuda when my centipede dies..which doesn’t seem like that’s anytime soon.

Such a stupid ordinance. It kills me that builders solely install centipede.
