I can’t stand the shitshow of one guy only hiring his friends across 2 professional sports franchises. Maybe if they sell and move to Seattle Mickey will follow since he’s from that area and at least the saints might be spared. Joe fricking Dumars? Joe “I drafted Darko Milicic over 4 all pro players” Dumars. That’s what we have to look forward to. I’m so disgusted with Gayle Benson that I wish Tom’s family had won the teams and not her (that’s bad because Rita Benson-Leblanc was a huge count herself). There’s no hope. To top it all off, how the frick is Willie Green still employed?

This. Vegas and Seattle will have expansion teams within 10 years. Idk where else the pels could go that makes sense. Maybe Nashville? Does Texas get 4 teams? Doubt it. I think the NBA would try hard to keep the pels in Nola to cover the gulf coast fandom

Then force an ownership change.

IIRC they forced out Sterling and Sarver.

If Gayle can get away with helping censor pedo activity in the church I don’t think she’s going anywhere. Maybe someone can use a AI voice generator that sounds like her saying the n word. Sadly she’s here for a while and our best bet is fans stop going to games in revolt.

EXA TLY! They threw Stirling out the Clippers for being a terrible person why can’t we do the same shite with Gayle? She has to know the fanbase hates her. Of course I know those are 2 completely different scenarios but still, she’s ruining both teams by keeping one man around. One guy is poisoning 2 pro franchises and he doesn’t even own them.

If you think that Gayle is going to give up that sweet sweet expansion money all the owners will get from Vegas and Seattle franchises you are high as frick

I wish I was high as frick because at least then I could laugh at this joke of 2 franchises. We are the laughter of two leagues right now.

Lots of perks to being an NBA owner, even in a smaller market. They are talking about the expansion fee being 5B. That's not including the arena and a bunch of other costs. If I'm leading a private equity group, I'm targeting the Pelicans now. Figure around 3B for the team, 2B for a new arena that includes on-site gambling. Be all in for less than 5B. Be a goldmine and new alternative to Vegas, if everything is built out right..

But where would they build the new arena? You’d have to demolish the current one which is a huge piece of shite and build in its place. So that’s two years playing games in the Superdome or finding another location to play in until a new arena is built. I don’t live in Louisiana anymore so I don’t know what the situation is there as far as if the state is willing to fund some of a new arena or if it would have to be 100% privately funded. I’m guessing 100% private. Gayle is talking about an update to the current arena but that thing needs to go completely.

Other league owners would push heavily against this.

They want those 2 expansion teams not the Pelicans to move...for now

Once those expansion teams happen no one will care what happens to the Pelicans

Yup every owner wants that big fat check they’re gonna get from these expansion teams. It’s also probably what Gayle is waiting for before she sells the team

99% of the time, I'd agree with this. I just don't see why a 78 year old billionaire with no children would make huge decisions like that based on getting more millions in a few years. Especially given the fact that all of her money is going to charity upon her death. Anything she wants now she has the money for.

For her charities or some other shite. Everything has been about her making money since she’s been in charge. She’s been doing the bare minimum compared to other owners in the league.

We’re talking over 300 million dollars she would personally receive just for agreeing to an expansion. Shes in no rush.

She's never been in a rush or even hinted at wanting to sell though. I don't think she's waiting it out for this big payday. I think she just wants to stay as owner. She would probably feel guilty if she sold Tom's legacy.

Honestly, when Adam Silver sees the Dumars news, he may finally say "You know what? New Orleans DOESN'T deserve a team..."

Alright, this is going to sound crazy. But how about in the river?

It's going to be crazy expensive, but put it right along the river walk. Everything is right there. It would only go out into the river a couple hundred feet. It would be original and iconic. There are wide spots that could accommodate it. Plus it's out of the way, so it doesn't mess with anything..
