He's not a fricking scapegoat.

My main issue, besides the goddamn Steven Adam's signing, letting guys like Lonzo and val leave for nothing, The fricking devonte Graham trade, my main reason Griff needed to get the frick out of here:

Completely fricking up Zion by giving him too much of a leash.

Throw in the Brandon Ingram distaster and him having the biggest war chest of any NBA team and fricking that up too/accomplishing nothing with it, and the firing was beyond justified. Willie needs to be next.

Drafting Kira Lewis in 2020 when everyone on this board knew he’d be a bust.

He had 6 years to build a perennial playoff team and failed while blowing all the assets he worked to acquire.

Out standards are so low that he got 6 years.

Bro everyone on here wanted Halliburton (went before ours) or Maxey pre-draft. We had the capital to get either, but Griffin coveted Kira fricking Lewis. That’s only a small example of how bad he was.

Not trading BI while he still had some decent value.

Never finding a great true PG

Trading back from the 4th pick in 2019

What did we give up for Devonte Graham? A first… and then paid seconds to get rid a season later?

That’s one of my faves.

Getting the square root of frick all for Lonzo.

Getting next to nothing for BI

Trading away rights to Garland for NAW and Jax… Jax going for free

Paying to get rid of Adams

Spooning the entire ‘war chest’

Nothing for Val

Taking Kira as a lottery pick (I think?)

SVG

Bledsoe…

Theis and Green this season. Deary me.

There has been some good bits… CJ and Murray and our ‘21 rookie class

Generally a complete mess otherwise

Drafting, besides Zion. Drafting Jaxson Hayes 8th overall was insane

One of my favorites.
After 6 seasons our centers are rookies, Missi and Karlo, and Olynyk. This is after giving up resources, often coming and going, for Favors, Hayes, Adams, Jonas, and Theis (did I miss anyone?).
So after 6 seasons Griff gives us at center 2 green rookies and an aging Olynyk. The stuff of championships.

The day Zion left the bubble in Orlando for "personal reasons", it was over. The experiment failed. He was going to be a problem for us forever. A good GM would have realized this and started putting feelers out. I told you all that day that he was a head case, didn't want to be here, and would never be worth the squeeze but you didn't believe me.

Everything else is related to that. If Zion wanted to be here, everything would have worked.

He was tasked with building a team around Zion and Ingram in a small market with a cheap owner.

This. The whole dialogue around "he should have been tougher with Zion" is so idiotic. Have y'all completely forgotten how most of the board wanted him fired three years ago for supposedly damaging our relationship with Zion? Have y'all forgotten the stupid piano story?

Stars in small markets have so much power precisely because they know that the front office and coaches can't do squat about it.

It's not Griff's fault that Zion has wanted to eat more than he's wanted to become an MVP.

It's also not Griff's fault that New Orleans is a small market that has never paid the tax. Griff gambled on this season, betting that the addition of Murray would unlock Zion, we could have a top-4 team in the West at the deadline, and he'd be able to move BI for a center who would enable us to contend.

When you are in a small market that doesn't pay tax, you sometimes have to gamble. Griff lost that bet this season, but the logic was there. The logic still makes sense. And I would rather be a fan of a team that at least takes big swings than a team like Indiana that's fine with always being a low seed in the playoffs.

Sure, Griff made some bad calls with Jaxson Hayes, Steven Adams, Devontae Graham, Eric Bledsoe, and Kira Lewis. He made up for those with steals like Herb Jones and Trey Murphy, and by consistently finding guys like Jose and Naji off the scrap heap and turning them into quality contributors

I'm not opposed to firing him today. The fans need to see change to have a reason to believe. But we didn't lose because of Griff anymore than it was Dell Demps's fault that Boogie got hurt. It's just how the league works.

The main reason he got fired is Zion.

If Zion is healthy every season and has that dog in him we are in a totally different spot.

We had just acquired Lonzo Ball to be our starting PG. We didn't think we needed a starting PG.

Zion
Ingram
Medical staff that he hired couldn’t keep guys on the floor

You don’t get fired for missing on the ancillary type moves.
