Just turned 37 last month and my blood tests came in at LDL 221, which is obviously pretty high.

6'1 182lbs. Don't do a ton of heart pumping cardio, but I am active throughout the day and on the weekends. I do eat a decent amount of meat, generally smoked sausage, chicken thighs, and ground beef.

Besides limiting or eliminating those things from my diet, and maybe getting a little more active with cardio, what else should I be focused on to get this in check? Dr is requesting some changes for a few months before a secondary review to decide on medication.

eta: high cholesterol runs in moms side of family pretty widely.

you arent overweight but that doesnt mean you arent a little skinny fat

so

1) start lifting weights 3x per week. a proper program not just going in and hitting a machine here and there and going by feel

2) walking...try and get 8k steps per day

3) days you dont lift, do some cardio...20-30 min 2-3x per week

from diet perspective

1) cut out processed foods
2) get your protein in, keep it leaner but around 150g or more per day
3) keeps your carbs to things like rice, potatoes, fruit veggies

for supplements

1) Citrus Bergmont- 6 caps per day
2) nattokinase- 8 caps per day
3) vit K2- 2 caps per day

It seems that over 200 wasn't considered high cholesterol until meds that lowered cholesterol became available. In the 70s cholesterol wasn't considered high until 300.

Thanks.

1) was lifting 3x per week for a little while up until about February this year. Definitely need it for my health and more importantly stress levels.

2) I probably average 7k or so steps, but will make better effort to target this every day

Thanks for other suggestions. Wife thinks I'm gonna have a heart attack and die.

Not much. Maybe a few beers on the weekend and a cocktail or two.

He said his LDL was over 200, not this total.

In addition to what others have said, add in some psyllium husk to a glass of water once per day. Studies have shown that it can lower your cholesterol.

Total is 282

It’s just wild because I feel like I’m more health conscious than a lot of guys my age or younger. Wife eats healthy so there’s not a ton bad options at my house

You’d swear my wife found a stash of fentanyl in my house when my nicotine pouches were delivered last week. I’ll be dead in a few weeks according to her. My stash can go to the H&F board if yall into those.

I would take the supplements lsu777 mentioned. I am also taking a red rice yeast. I did a preventative visit with a cardiologist and he recommended a low dose statin which caused me a couple of issues. Lowered my testosterone, dehydration and a little bit of brain fog. My LDL was 154. I have listened to a ton of podcasts with Paul Saladino, Mark Hyman, etc and I stopped the statin. My overall cholesterol is 210 and I’m doing a dirty carnivore with no alcohol and no processed foods.

I think statins might be overprescribed but talk to a doctor about it. cholesterol can be hereditary. Mine is a bit high and i exercise and eat well.

If a doctor says you should take it it is bad
