He's always been the same. He gets hit hard and sometimes it results in 5 runs in .2 innings and other times the hard hit balls go into the glove of defenders. He's doing the same thing this year, too.

Last year Dutton had a better walk/IP ratio than Kade Anderson currently has this year… and he hit 3 total batters over 3 years at LSU

I think Jay obviously saw something in him. Jay gave him a shot at starting in his first year here when he was searching for someone to start behind Hilliard. And he always had a lot of appearances while he was here despite never being that effective
