What is your experience with them, good and bad?
Do you feel safe buying from them? I have one friend who recently purchased from them but that is it. Was wanting to get a more broad view of how reputable they are?

Idk about buying, but I just sold an SUV to them... 45 mins, and I was out the door with check in hand

you will probably pay about 10% above market, but you will get the exact model/trim you are looking for. I found one in Denver, paid 500 to get it shipped to Austin, and completed the deal in 30 minutes. No haggle, no hassle .

You’ll pay a little more, but it’s a pleasant buying experience.

I like the no haggle policy

My niece bought a 10 yo car with about 100k miles from them a few years ago and it has given her zero issues and the buying experience was great.
10% above market is about right, basically a convenience fee.

I like car max. I have got three cars from them. Two good and one bad. I realized the one had issues and they took it back no questions.

My son in law bought one from them. No hassle and no issues with the vehicle.

I have purchased from Carmax three vehicles in my lifetime. I have had nothing but good experiences. Bought my present car from them back in July. I like the fact that you can go in, find what you want and not have to deal with the back and forth that you see at dealerships. Very quick and straightforward process.

You can get a price online and that’s exactly to the penny you will pay, which is nice. I bought a used luxury car from them 2 years and it has been a really good car so far. They did a bit of a hard sell on the warranty but that’s it.

Bought 4 cars from them. As said, a bit on the high side of book value, but comes with a warranty that is worth it, IMO.

So just for my understanding…the price is set and there is no haggling?

I have never understood the thought process around this comment. Every dealership has a "no haggle policy" until the consumer asks them if they will accept something less than the asking price. Competition in the market place is what drives the "haggling."
You will have just as pleasant of buying experience, if not better, if you walked into dealership and bought the vehicle at whatever price they give you when you ask them how much for the vehicle.
OP, from my experience CarMax offers less than trade in value on your vehicle and charges above market value on the vehicle you're buying.
They are making a premium on both ends preying on those that enjoy the no haggle experience.

Bought a Tundra from them a year ago. Easy no-stress transaction. Vehicle is good. I got no complaints.

My time is more valuable than to spend hours or even days trying to negotiate over a few k...I'm trying to be in and out.
I can honestly say that when it comes to my personal life, not professionally, given my line of work, I don't enjoy haggling. I feel it's below me in a way as stuck up and arrogant as it may sound. Just tell me the price.

I looked around for a bit, found one I liked and it was in my area. Probably payed a little more but maybe not.. it was close enough to all the averages.. super quick process once the car was ready to test drive. Probably took close to two hours and I was out of there..
