A man riding a bicycle on the Tammany Trace in Covington was shot on Tuesday morning after he got into an altercation with the driver of a vehicle, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's office said.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said, and details remain sparse.

The biker was riding on the Tammany Trace bike trail near the intersection of Third Street, when a man exited his vehicle, approached the biker and the two got into an altercation, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said in a press release Tuesday afternoon.

The driver pulled a gun on the biker and a shot was fired, authorities said. The biker was injured in his arm and was transported to a hospital.

"The incident is still under investigation, but it is not believed to be random," the press release said, encouraging people with any information about the incident to contact the Sheriff's Office.

Not believed to be random? Sounds like the guy told them who shot him in the arm

I think this is a few blocks south of the Harbor Freight on Claiborne Hill.

I’d be willing to bet that the incident started because the biker didn’t obey the stop sign on the bike path and then caught an attitude with the driver who had the right of way.

Could just as easily have been the driver not yielding to the bikers crossing a street and the biker giving him a look or a “what the hell” hand sign which pissed the driver off.

I’ve seen it both ways

According to Google street view, there wasn’t a stop sign on the street. Just on the bike path, so the driver had the right of way no matter what, unless they added a stop sign very recently.

I don't care what the biker did. If he didn't pull a weapon then the guy that did, and fired his weapon, should be locked up.

He fricked up when he got out the car with a gun.
Then he shot him in the arm? Were they wrestling over the gun or the guy just that bad of a shot?

Bike guy was probably a douche but just let it go my God, and you get out with a gun, c’mon, he’s a bigger douche.

Who’s to say the biker wasn’t beating on the other guy’s car and then continued to be aggressive after the driver got out?

All of the articles online right now say the exact same thing as the one OP linked. No mention of the shooter either being at large or having been arrested, which leads me to think the cops have probably interviewed the shooter already and there’s a possible self defense angle to it.

I’ve yet to meet a guy on a bike who carries a gun.

Ugh I hate these biking douche bags who think they own the damn road too. And I used to bike a bunch my self.

But there's no justification for shooting someone cause you're too stupid to keep your road rage under control.

Cars 100% have fight of way over the Trace intersections. Doesn’t stop the bikers and joggers from just running out into the street though. It’s annoying as hell. I don’t want to kill anyone but it gets old watching out for these idiots. Even worse are the drivers who treat the Trace crossings as an unmarked stop sign. Driving down the road and they just stop for no reason. I almost rear ended someone yesterday on Lonesome Road.

Have had a couple of instances where the Trace people glared at me. Never once thought of shooting one of them.

And pedestrians 100% have the right of way at pedestrian crosswalks. But that doesn’t stop cars from rolling right through them when pedestrians are trying to cross.

WTF does that have to do with this thread? Pedestrians only have right of way in crosswalks in certain areas as designated by law. LSU campus for one. But that doesn’t apply to other areas even on campus such as Highland Road crossings. Again though, what does any of that have to do with the Trace?
