WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's administration has ended a Federal Emergency Management Agency program that paid to elevate homes, build levees and do other work to mitigate damage from storms, calling it “wasteful and ineffective.”
quote:
The end of the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program effectively spikes 148 applications worth $721,281,559 in Louisiana, according to FEMA’s database.
quote:
The program helped fund levee improvements, pumping stations and other pre-disaster mitigation projects were credited last year with keeping the 12-foot storm surge of Hurricane Francine out of most Terrebonne Parish’s homes and businesses.

Additionally, Louisiana delegation members have long argued the infrastructure improvements that lessen the impact of storms should be considered when setting premium prices for flood insurance, which they consider unfairly high.

Too bad.
Louisiana has such a rich history of sound investment of Federal money on disaster mitigation, too.

Good, FEMA waste has been out of control for decades.

If the State could line item each and every penny spent, then track each and every penny spent, you'd have my sympathy. Otherwise, boo fricking hoo.

Appears the insurance companies will have a GREEN LIGHT ( reason ) to raise rates?!? lol

Everybody has to take a hit if we want to get spending under control. Good luck out there.

Why would the American taxpayer be paying for individual homes to be protected?
If the homes are built in known dangerous areas that shouldn't be on everyone.

Good. Stop socializing the money and let each state deal with its own shite.

Levees and pumps are WOKE NONSENSE, am I right?

Why would FEMA want to help citizens who voted for Trump? Isn’t that how they work?

I would love this. We would also find that it would be a FRACTION of the 721M

Transparency is the key to cutting out waste.

Why the hell should FEMA be paying to raise someone’s home?

Plus, the agency is looking for ways to claw back money already paid out. For Louisiana that could translate to about $282 million.
OH boy

I would like to see where this is going.
It’s close to 5 mil per applicant.
How many homes are they raising?

They quoted a DEM politician but I guarantee you lots of the GOP state pols are pissed about losing the grant. I imagine even Landry may be apoplectic about having to pay back 1/3 of a bill
