The Colorado legislature passed a controversial bill Sunday that would require taxpayers to fund abortions that kill babies before birth. The vote sends the measure to pro-abortion Gov. Jared Polis for consideration.

The legislation, SB25-183, cleared the House with a party-line vote and has sparked fierce debate over the use of public funds for killing children before birth.

The bill, which previously passed the state Senate, mandates that Colorado’s Medicaid program, administered through the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, cover abortions with tax dollars for all eligible recipients. It also extends funding to out-of-state individuals seeking abortions in Colorado, a provision critics argue turns the state into an “abortion tourism” destination.

“This is about making sure that every person, regardless of income or location, can exercise their constitutional right to abortion care,” said Rep. Lorena Garcia, D-Adams County, a sponsor of the bill. “Colorado voters have spoken—abortion must remain safe, legal, and protected.”

Democrats also came under fire for falsely claiming that killing babies in abortions saves money.

Opponents, however, contend the bill imposes an unfair burden on taxpayers, many of whom object to abortion on moral or religious grounds.

“Coloradans deserve better than rushed debate and silenced voices. Pushing policies while shutting down the voices of those who are raising valid concerns about the direction of our state is not why we are here,” said House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese, R-Colorado Springs.

She criticized the Democratic majority for invoking Rule 16, a procedural tactic that limited debate before the vote.

Colorado is expected to spend $3 million of taxpayer funds to kill babies.

If signed, the measure would take effect July 1, 2025, aligning with the state’s next fiscal year.

Just another typical example of the problem with the left. They're not happy to just be allowed to do something. They want to force you to participate. That's what they do with the Trans movement and that's what they're doing here. And when the Second Amendment finally gets used on them and trust me one day it will they're going to act all surprised

That used to be a place of cowboys and mountain ranches and western ski towns. It was a solid red state.

What happened to that place?

What does the bill say? Or are you just going to take a hit piece assertion that before birth means right up to birth?

What does the actual bill say?

Not a constitutional scholar, but if citizens are required to pay for other citizens’ “constitutional rights”, then I think we should force tax payers to supply my constitutional right to own an AR-15. I currently do not have one, and the 2A says I have the right to own one, so cough up the money Democrats, I need to add to my gun collection

The bill doesn't need to specify. Colorado has no limits on when abortion can occur during pregnancy. This bill didn't need to do anything for that to be true.

Last year Colorado passed a constitutional amendment to "enshrine" abortion. During the legislative vote and subsequent statewide vote for approval, democrats went out of their way to swear that taxpayer funds would never be used for abortions.

Now here we are .... proof that demoncraps are liars to their core

California moved in and brought their idiotic policies with them.
It never ceases to amaze me that you leave a state due to policies but bring the same mindset and votes to do the exact same thing to the new state. CO is a beautiful state but filled with Liberals now.
