Was replacing income tax with Tarrifs a lie?

During the campaign, President Trump promised that we could replace the income tax system with new Tarrifs, and many of you celebrated.
Now you’re celebrating many countries coming to negotiate to end the Tarrifs all together. How are we going to replace income tax then?
Which proposal was the lie?

We are literally days into the tariffs, not even four months into Trump's second term, and these are the threads we get.

It’s April. Not even a year into his first term. Maybe it’s coming. Or do you want it now and then will bitch if it happened now?

It's a worthwhile question and yes it's an obvious lie
Tariffs don't have the ability to replace income taxes
It's just another tax on top of income taxes

It's just another tax on top of income taxes

Let the dolts have their perceived victory for a few days.

No, it's not a worthwhile question. No, we can't say it was a lie. Yes, tariffs absolutely can replace income taxes. No, it's not just a tax in top of income taxes.
Simple.

Regardless, Trump’s messaging on tariffs conflicts with itself. There is an inherent contradiction between using a tariff to promote domestic production and using a tariff to generate revenue.
In the first scenario, the purpose of a protective tariff is to raise the cost of imports enough that consumers will opt to purchase from domestic producers. Yet the more effective the tariff is in achieving this goal, the fewer imports will occur, thus resulting in reduced revenue.

I think the lie was that there was ever a real plan.

Comsumption tax was included in his plan.

The lie was everything the left has said or done for the past 25 years.

I swear to God, I want to find myself on the opposite side of a table negotiating with a lot of you.
Because as near as I can tell, all of you would approach negotiating with me by putting ALL your cards on the table inside of the first minute.

Could you link us to the speech where Trump said this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

The inherit logical contradiction will not become clearer with time. All we will learn is which direction was a lie.
What we know already, is those of you on your knees blowing the President no matter what he says look like fools when you can’t even admit that not all things are possible.
The Tarrifs are either a stable revenue stream (replacing tax) or they’re a negotiating tool and tactic (can be put on and removed at will). If you can’t see how both of these things can’t be true, you’re deluded.

There are 3 purported legit goals that can't really overlap much
1. Bring manufacturing home
2. Establish "Fair Trade"
3. Replace income tax with tariffs
Along with some stupidity (Stopping Fentanyl)

You can't Just as manufacturing jobs won't come back, either
quote:
We negotiate full scale equal trade. 0% across the board. Big win, I suppose.
How exactly is that pushing manufacturing back stateside? Labor is still cheaper in Vietnam.
Isn't the only way to make money be to have a baseline tariff on every import?
Seems counterintuitive to target 0% tariff.

Trump said Canada will the the 51st state. Was it a lie?
Trump said he's going to invade Iceland. Was it a lie?
You still don't understand his method of negotiating and you've had more than 4 years to observe how he works as President.

Why are you melting about people asking what the actual goal of the policy is?

Ok this is great! You’re admitting they’re a negotiating tool.
So the intent was never to replace the tax system. Those who came to this board celebrating the end of income tax in the name of Tarrifs were and are fools. Glad we can find common ground.
