These data show that the federal government had spent $1.893 trillion in 2025 as of March 26, compared with $1.763 trillion as of the same date last year. In other words, federal spending is on pace to come in 7.4% higher this year than last.

These figures cannot by themselves refute claims made by Musk and DOGE, as it doesn't account for future savings that some contract and grant cancellations could realize for the Treasury.

How much of this is caused by Biden Administration frickery at the end of that dumpster fire of a presidency?

The memo across the board for federal employees was to cut as many checks as possible before Trump took office. Dump every dollar they could possibly dump

My guess is the interest expense that continues to grow as money comes due and deficits widen, but I’d be interested in a breakdown.

Same here. Clearly there are residual expenditures from Biden's administration. What is not clear is just how much DOGE has really cut. As things stand, it would seem that Elon has been exaggerating.

congress controls the budget.
we are still operating on a budget from the last admin.
fiscal year ends in September. we'll see what kind of budget gets passed after that.

You could cut every federal employee and it wouldn’t put a dent in federal spending. Look at the budget, DOGE is a sideshow to divert your attention from the politicians setting the budget and spending the money.
And the amounts they put on their site are fairy tail numbers. Most of those employees and contracts have been rehired and reinstated.

This, this, a thousand times this.

Trump is already supporting the senate spending plan which doesn’t decrease spending. But it will be blamed on Biden, immigrants, federal workers, some butcher in Montana that charges extra for pickles. Anyone and everyone but the people actually setting the budget and spending the money.

That's clearly clickbait. Spending is decided a year or so in advance. It takes some time to see the effects of spending cuts. I know that it is how it is in business, government is orders of magnitude larger, and it is going to take longer to see results.

It was more a result of the CR that congress kept ramming through.

Well, interest on $36T is damn expensive when rates inched forward. As of last week, we are officially at $37T.
I am just waiting for a failed treasury auction at this point. When that happens, well, hold on to your arse.

Biden's last budget doesn't end until 9/30/2025. Trump's first fiscal year starts 10/1/2025.
Also, the budget is like the largest sea-going vessel. It takes a lot of time/effort to simply change it's trajectory.
