They next need to focus their attention on ceasing oil and gas production.

Historians will see this as the end of the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
The final squeak of the midgets that inherited a giants bounty.

That’ll show the world…No more Titanic's!

Collective punishment for Brexit.

They already think of the country as a third world shithole attached to the world’s fourth largest economy (London)

And to think, they dominated the world until somewhere around World War II.
Please save us from the same fate, God (and Trump).

This avoids the off chance some of that steel might be used to make a Ninja sword.

They apparently didn't want to be outdone by Germany destroying their six-year-old coal powered electrical plant.
We're going back to the dark ages y'all.

It seems it will be transitioned into a humas production facility.

I'm no geopolitical supply and demand/production genius by any means, but even I can see the utter fricking absurdity of the total self-elimination of your ability to produce steel.

They are probably making room for inceased palm oil production.

The level of stupidity required for that is difficult to believe. Should just go back to living in huts.

The mill should have started modernizing to Electric Arc Furnaces a long time ago. The UK still has those.
Now the Chinese own the place and they want the UK to spend a billion bucks to modernize it?
Why don't they get the money from China?

The absolute insistence on driving out all manufacturing from this country is dumb.
I'm against publicly owned companies in general but a country needs to ensure it is self sufficient in certain things such as energy, and we are doing everything we can to go the other way.
Countries become great by making things not by having 30 coffee shops in each town centre and nothing else.

How will they build ships, tanks and rifles?

They will continue making steel in the UK.
They are just closing the last blast furnace.
