Need the OT board's help - seller backing out of selling a house

My wife and I had signed the contract. The sellers are using a relocation company and we don't have their signatures on anything.
We had already paid earnest money on the house, have a closing date, and had the inspection performed. They had a "Under contract" sign in their front yard that we have a photo of.
Are we shite out of luck or is there some avenue we can take to potentially still have the house sold to us?

Out of curiosity, did they change their mind about selling or just got a better offer?

They don't want to sell the house anymore at this time.

Depends on several factors including the state you are in and what the contract says. Do you have a realtor ? If not you may want to hire a real estate attorney.

Time for your realtor to actually earn their money. What is your realtor saying?

If OP is like most people who ask questions like this, he’s been told the answer and doesn’t like it.

The contract, if there is one, will govern. See a lawyer.

My default assumption is that we are screwed but this isn't my purview and would like other opinions to see if there is anything we can do.

Stop by and knock on the door, ask them why they are backing out in person on the doorstep. Who wants to love it? Who wants to list it?

Typical relocation the sellers sign the house over to relocation and they act as sellers. If it was an accepted offer it’s likely not even the occupants house to sell/back out of at that point. Most contracts if you would have backed out the relo company would be stuck with house as inventory.

Sorry to hear about your situation.
The seller is not a party to the contract before executing it.
There is no contract until it is fully-executed by all parties.

I don't know why they're using a relocation company. They're planning to move to a different state.
The "Under Contract" sign was in their front yard the day we signed our contract. We have a photo of it. We paid the earnest money the next day. They are saying it was a "verbal agreement" only.
We had an inspector already see their house and had a floor person come to survey for installing hardwood floors.

Was there a verbal contract, agreeing on price?

Yes, we had fully agreed on the price and closing date.

Verbal contracts can be enforced under certain circumstances/jurisdictions. Maybe check into that.
