SPF Fishing Shirts

Got scolded by the dermatologist for not wearing enough sunscreen. Having to have a couple of spots cut off via MOHS.
Need to get better clothing to cover up while out on the boat.
Who has the best SPF fishing gear these days without breaking the bank?
Have some FreeFly stuff but it's expensive for a shirt that is going to get covered in blood and sunscreen.
Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear this. I like free fly. Breathable but I will say one time wade fishing 3 days in a row I was burned using free fly while at chandelier.
Wear what you’ll be comfortable in. For me it’s free fly.

Yes. Buy the cheapest long sleeve shirt you can find or wear one in your closet. It doesn't need an SPF rating.

Aftco Samurai ones are my favorite. Super light and comfortable. $39

UV rays still penetrate thin fabrics. Even more so if you get it wet

Those would be my old columbia long sleeve T's. They were early in the game and most of mine are stained to shite now from cleaning fish etc.. That's what I wear to actually fish.
I have some nicer ones that I wear around town and to my kids ball games to prevent burn. No particular brand. If it has a design I like, I buy it.

Aftco and Simms make my favorites.

Another vote for Aftco. Mossy Oak is good value but not sure if it’s the same quality as far as SPF

Freefly and other bamboo shirts are comfortable as hell but I don't like them if theyre getting wet or sweating. I think the other dri fit type materials are cooler to wear in the summer.
Magellan or Bassdash on amazon are pretty cheap and good enough for a fishing shirt if thats what you're looking for. Not as nice material as columbia, simms, aftco, but again if youre looking for something to get blood and slime on.

Actually pretty low, considering it's probably a white cotton t-shirt.
I'm not saying it's something you HAVE to have or even need, but it's not some made up science. It's pretty straight forward actually. I love the sun shirts, because they're comfortable and light when I'm going to be out all day or wading, but personally fish in a cotton t shirt most days, because I make a lot of real short early/late trips.
ETA: Google says ~5-7spf for a white cotton t-shirt. Of course, that's a constant, not the same as putting on SPF 5-7 sunscreen and then sweating, but point remains. There's a reason folks love a wet t-shirt contest...

I felt the same way, but after some research, evidently natural fabrics don’t block uv rays very good. You won’t burn but you still get exposed.
Does it make a difference? I don’t really know, but when I’m planning on spending a lot of time in the sun, I’m wearing polyester, even though I’d rather cotton.
And to answer the OP post, academy has decent stuff in their Magellan brand. I did buy a Columbia that was very nice as well, although it’s pricey compared to Magellan.

I'm not one to buy into the "culture" type of clothes, but Skinny Water Culture SWC Hawksbill Hoodie is an awesome shirt. You can find it lots of places other than their site, sometimes for under $30. I think I bought from their site on a 50% off deal.
It has a lot of features that I like, thumbholes on cuff, hood, button collar to loosen around neck, pocket you can't feel, sunglass cleaner, and of course a hood when I don't have a hat handy. Super soft and cool. So far, stain resistant.
