Is Disney going to have a second “renaissance” of hand drawn 2D animation?

It feels like the entire world is aching for an orignal, classic family picture from Disney. An iconic picture like Snow White, Aladdin, or even a Hercules.
When will Disney wake up and realize that paying the extra money to hand draw and properly write a movie could repair their brand image and bring the public back to them? I believe that Disney is acutely aware of this, and just pushing to the edge of the abyss before making a HARD shift back to original animation. It will be celebrated, but it will be a calculated business decision.

They tried this a long time with The Princess and the Frog.
Turns out people that say they want hand drawn animation on message boards and social media don't have that same energy in the theater.

Hope they at least bring it back in some capacity. The new Looney Tunes movie (WB I know) was actually refreshing and was hand drawn.

My kid was born in 2012. Up to today, TPATF is her favorite Disney movie.

What is Disney doing with Studio Ghibli, the world famous Japanese cartoon studio with some totally charming movies in their collection. All hand drawn. With very different levels of sophistication and at least one totally tragic post WWII movie.

No, it's too expensive and time consuming. But you don't need to now with AI, etc. Look at the Wild Robot. It looks animated, etc.

Modern audiences dont like the hand drawn 2D stuff either now that they know it exists.

Yea you're just making stuff up. They did Winnie the Pooh two years later.
The 3D films were just more profitable in general, from all companies. You had films like Shrek and Ice Age killing it while 2D movies like Treasure Planet and Home on the Range were bombing.
So Disney is like do I want to do another 2D movie, or do Frozen. Hmm, tough choice.

Truth is, they don't know how to make those movies. They lost the last bit of institutional knowledge when they kicked Lassiter to the curb for being too "huggy".

Ehh if it’s a movie they find funny with good music they’d eat it up just like they do all the other movies on Disney plus and other streaming services that are more traditional animation. I know mine laugh harder at 60 year old buggs bunny blowing up Yosemite sam/road runner cartoons than just about anything. Little kids don’t give a shite regarding animation.

I literally watched this last night (not for the first time mind you)...
I came inside after grilling food and drinking outside for a little bit and my wife and 15 year old daughter were posted up in the living room with blankets, so basically I had no choice.
at some point my 15 year old daughter says, "it's sad to say that I don't say it enough how much I loooove this movie!"
She has seen it her whole life and we do a lot of re-watches of old animation style, be it Lion King or Alladin, but even Robin Hood, Fox and the Hound, and all the classics.
You would be surprised how much the teen generation and even my son who is 20 responds to those type of movies. I really wish they would make a comeback.
