While he’s exaggerating, there are bench players today that would have put up Wilt numbers back then. Any half decent slasher is getting to the rim at will.

I find these types of conversations silly. Same as the Dream Team vs the most recent US gold medal team arguments.
Look, if the current person/team got to play with the evolved, newer style of basketball, and the old team had to play with the antiquated style, yes, absolutely they would dominate.
Any one who argues that the Dream Team would beat the current squad simply doesnt understand why the league became what it became. There arent enough buckets in a game for the old team to win playing their style. With the amount of 3s teams take and make they just cant keep up.
But WHY would we give them that advantage. Its a mythical competition so apply some mythical constraints where both squads have the same information.
Id ask LeBron why he doesnt think Hakeem ever scored more than 52

You’re leaving the skill gap out of it though. Today’s players are simply better, like every other sport on earth.

Sure but then he’d have to take a rest day or two.
How many rest days did Kareem get? Also why are we talking about the 70s?

Not many guys in today’s NBA would survive in that era, imagine the beatings someone like Draymond Green would get

gianni’s would weight 170 pounds and have never taken a jump shot in the 70s.

It’s crazy that some people actually believe this.

Lebron missed 7 games after this, flopped so hard he injured his groin

Since the 1992 "Dream Team" era, USA Basketball, with NBA players, has experienced 11 losses in major international tournaments, including losses to Puerto Rico, Lithuania, Argentina, Spain, and France.
Dream Team all day every day. They were tougher, more fundamental, and played defense. Today's players are more athletic and that is about it. Europe continues to close the gap.

I know right? Einstein is also overrated as a scientist. Any college doctoral student today would be just as good if you took them back in time. Einstein couldn't even use a computer or do Excel.

It doesnt matter how tough they are.
They will lose the analytic battle. It would essentially be like the current team got 50% more possessions. Their tough, gritty, post defense would be irrelevant. Their rebounding would be irrelevant. They would lose the analytic battle shooting midrange shots.
And what the frick does Europe have to do with two American teams playing each other?

You’re still underselling the disparity. Players back then couldn’t even dribble with their left hand.

Was Einstein a part time scientist who worked as a plumber half the year? Did Einstein need to be a physical specimen to come up with his theory of relativity?
Giannis would be one of the tallest, quickest, strongest, and best ball handler in the league. No one was stopping him.
Now make the argument that someone like Steph would not be as effective I would still disagree, but it’s at least a closer argument.

What would Giannis be paid in 70s salary? Did Lebron forget that part?
Posted on 3/26/25 at 11:10 am to Bench McElroy
Refs would also call travel 20 times a game on Giannis.
