The hearing was part of Entergy's request to the state's Public Service Commission to allow it to build three new natural gas-fired power plants for the project at a cost of over $3 billion. The environmental and consumer advocacy groups have challenged aspects of the application, with Tuesday's hearing focusing on whether Meta should be included as one of the applicants in addition to Entergy.

It's entirely procedural, and it's the weakest of weak arguments. Natural gas power plants exist all over the state.

They are not acting in good faith; Louisiana needs to figure out how to cut them out of this process.

“The (advocacy groups) have a number of questions that they need to have satisfied in order to be able to argue that or support that the application is in the public interest, and without that information, they cannot make their case,” Miller said.

But Skylar Rosenbloom, a lawyer representing Entergy, called some of the advocates’ requests “extreme and draconian." Dana Shelton, the PSC lawyer, said the move could have a chilling effect on future economic development.

“It could likely say to prospective customers, such as another Meta, ‘Don’t come here to do business,’” Shelton said.

Meta did not respond to requests for comment.

This is too big for them to stop after it received approval. Waste of their time and energy.

Also activist groups are fricking retarded.

Any environmental activism aside, there’s going to be some mistrust when Entergy is making a multi-billion dollar investment that exists strictly to serve one customer. I haven’t been able to find a ton of detail about the funding, but there does need to be a certain amount of scrutiny to ensure that the general public doesn’t get left holding the bag (or part of it) for the project.

It’s a fairly complicated issue but ultimately, the public should not see any rate increases as a result of this project. It sounds like that’s at least part of the motivation here.

How long have you lived in Louisiana? We always, ALWAYS, get left holding the bag.

Union of Concerned Scientists is one of the main groups fighting this development. They’re heavily aligned with the Climate Communists.

Do we know if this data center is going to be fueled by local natural gas?

They do this with every major project.

They mostly lose, but their tactic is to delay and hopefully push or cancel FID.

They were semi successful with some LNG projects under Biden.

If memory serves, none of these groups are based even in the northern half of the state, much less the Monroe area. I think the closest one is some group of a half-dozen or so folks based out of a church in New Orleans.

This is a great example of people being professional bitchers. I hope DOGE ends up scuttling whatever federal funds they are getting (through whatever avenues).

Bingo. These people and the NIMBY’s are what have been making it impossible to do real business and development in the states. It’s got to stop.

Every power plant that has been built in the last 20 years has faced this kind of stupidity, it’s folks like Sierra Club and other paid grifters much like the van loads of thugs that were transported from city to city to protest, burn buildings and throw bricks.
They will get loud and stay loud until someone makes behind the scene payments to shut them up and make them go on to there next protest.
