During the press conference yesterday on the new Hyundai plant near Donaldsonville, Pres. Trump took a moment to advise Gov Jeff Landy to use paper ballots in our elections: 8% of the cost of the "machines". LINK

Louisiana doesn’t do much right. But our elections always run smoothly and results are announced very timely. Why would we mess with that?

Our elections cannot be audited.

We are trusting machines with proprietary software owned by private companies. Our officials cannot even look inside. Why are we trusting private companies with unclear ownership to count our votes?!?

We have no idea if the paper totals that are printed from those machines are accurate.

All machines can be compromised or hacked. None should be trusted.

We should not spend millions on new machines when we can have secure paper ballots that can be counted in our small precincts.

A machine saying “trust me bro” is not a good way to have confidence in elections. There’s no way for us to verify that those vote totals accurately reflect the selections of the voters.

The easiest thing in the world to hack, it just take someone adding paper to a stack.

Serialized, watermarked, hand-marked paper ballots counted at the precinct level by people from different parties with watchers and/or cameras is much more secure than trusting a machine.

I’ve heard this and that’s commendable. But, can it not be made better, or still at least hold to the same standards, by using paper ballots? (BTW isn’t LA a Dominion state?)

Trusting multiple people to correctly handle stacks of paper and calling it secure is hilarious to me.

Might as well just have voters whisper their votes in the ears of the volunteer poll workers and count the votes that way.

Voting systems are designed to keep votes anonymous, separating the voter from their choice to protect privacy and ensure freedom. This anonymity, while essential, makes it tough to prove fraud. With paper ballots, the risk lies in physical tampering, like adding fake ballots, which requires minimal skill and could be done by election workers driven by political motives.

In contrast, electronic voting raises fears of hacking or software manipulation, which, while possible, demands rare expertise and might leave digital traces. People worry more about tech-based fraud, but it’s less accessible than slipping extra paper ballots into the mix. Paper systems might seem simpler and safer, but their openness to low-skill tampering by insiders could make them riskier in practice, especially without strict safeguards.

I’m not arguing paper can’t work, but it needs lots of safeguards to prevent abuse. Once fraudulent ballots are in the system, no judge is ever going to throw them out. So, what type of safeguards can you put into place that ensures that no fraudulent ballots hit the counting tables? Because convincing people that you got that locked down is the only way to remove suspicion of low tech tampering. And in 2020 I’m much more likely to believe that is what happened in those liberal countries across a few states then some high tech hacking conspiracy.

You really think an idiot like JBE came out of nowhere to win twice in a red state, without some fraud out of N.O. & B.R.?

La. Repub vote history

671,009 - David Duke
984,499 - Mike Foster
805,203 - Mike Foster
676,484 - Bobby Jindal
699,672 - Bobby Jindal
673,239 - Bobby Jindal
505,940 - David Vitter
734,286 - Eddie Rispone
547,827 - Jeff Landry

You really believe that Vitter and Landry got less votes than David Duke? 30 years later? And Duke was running against the real Edwards

Wait, are you seriously suggesting the only way someone could beat philandering diaper boy David Vitter is through election fraud?

One of Louisiana's recently-elected state officials had paper ballots as part of her campaign platform. I assume it was SoS, but it could have been the AG.

After the scandal Vitter got 715,415 votes in his next Senate race. JBE only got 646,924 when he ran against Vitter for guv. (Cassidy got 712,000 to beat an incumbent Landrieu) Dont act like Vitter lost 200,000 red voters

And a sloth looking nobody rose from those ashes

We saw what happens when DIMs prop up an election. 4 years later and Trump won in a landslide. And Landry mysteriously wins without a run-off. First time in Repub history

But we somehow couldnt beat JBE. Twice

I probably trust the machines more than most of the people who would have to handle our paper ballots.

As others have alluded, elections are actually one of the few things our state does decently well. If it ain’t broke…

Somehow, only Republicans sometimes fall victim to election fraud. Of course, when a Republican wins an election, it is totally legit and valid. But when a Republican loses an election, it is because the election was stolen and/or fraudulent. Isn’t that curious?
