Americans Now Spend $69 per Month on Video Streaming

Which streamers do you have? And how much you spending monthly?

Streaming services like Netflix used to look like a much cheaper alternative to cable TV. But now streamers are facing similar pressures as prices climb — and the perceived value of their services diminishes, particularly among younger consumers.
On average, streaming video subscribers in the U.S. pay for four services totaling $69 per month, a 13% year-over-year increase, according to Deloitte’s 19th annual Digital Media Trends report, released Tuesday. By comparison, cable or satellite TV customers reported spending $125 per month on average.
Almost half (47%) of those surveyed said they pay too much for the streaming services they use, and 41% believe the content available on these services isn’t worth the price (up 5 percentage points from 2024). Indeed, 60% of consumers said that if their favorite streamer raised its prices by $5 per month they would cancel the service, the survey found.

Despite streaming providers’ efforts to minimize churn, 39% of consumers have canceled at least one paid SVOD service in the last six months, a rate that has remained relatively stable in recent years. This figure jumps to over 50% for Gen Zs and millennials. Additionally, the phenomenon of “churn and return” — in which consumers cancel and then renew the same subscription within six months — also remains consistent, with 24% of all consumers doing so in the past six months (40% for Gen Z and 35% for millennial respondents).

Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, Disney+, Apple TV, MAX, Paramount+. We don’t have cable or satellite. Amazon, Disney+, and Max are paid yearly subscriptions for us. All of that is still cheaper than what we were paying DirectTV every month.

We get Netflix and P+ included with other services we have. We pay $18 for Max/Hulu/D+ and $3 for Peacock. My sister pays $10 for Apple+. We pay $16 for Sirius for both cars. I use Napster for music streaming for $16.
My folks have Spectrum and we’ve created a profile so we can watch football in the fall.
We share logins where we can. Much much cheaper than cable.

We shuffle when shows we like start. For example we have HBO max right now, but once The Gemstones is over we will cancel. And probably won’t get it again till House of the Dragon comes back. I was happily surprised to see some of the NCAA tournament games on there as well. We have prime although I’m not sure why. The reason we always kept it was because of the shipping but we rarely get anything in two days anymore.
Currently have:
Angel Studios
Great Courses Plus
HBO
Prime
Don’t have:
Disney
Paramount
Peacock
Apple
Netflix (although sometimes we get it for a month or so)
or any others I’m missing.

Is this the M/TV version of the OT "Mah F-450" pickup truck thread?
Cuz ah got alllll the Netflixes and Hulus.
If they made truck nuts for home media, my flat-screen would be sporting a pair.

Apple, Prime, Netflix, Max, Paramount, Peacock.
Peacock free due to Comcast is service provider.
The two I keep are Netflix and Prime because I use prime a lot for other things.
Apple goes after I finish Masters of the Air and Paramount after 1923.

Recently cut all mine off except YouTube premium (not YTTV), I think I get max for free from my phone plan, and I have Amazon but that one isn’t too long for this world either. I just don’t consume nearly as much content as I used to anyway and I usually just rent or buy something when I want to see it.
I usually will stream off a site for sports
These platforms completely severing themselves from having unique or consistent viable and long standing series/properties makes it very easy to not feel like anything is really necessary. The best shows are all like 6 episodes and get 2 seasons at most so just wait until you have a month with some free time and pay a 1 time fee to see it all and cancel instead of keeping it around for no real reason. The waves of pop culture move so fast and hard there’s not even a society pressure or pitch to seeing these shows live. Everyone is behind and everything is created to be picked up later

I'd rather use that $200 a month on life experiences. That's $2400 a year.

Netflix, MAX, Apple+, BritBox, Amazon Prime, ESPN+, PBS Living. Could easily cancel Prime but it's free with a regular Prime membership. Just cancelled Paramount because it's basically just Taylor Sheridan soap operas.
On my brothers YTTV family plan so free (would probably be $100+) and Hulu and a buddies Peacock (not sure if this even costs money?).
So $60ish range for me. Way down since I'm sharing with my brothers YouTubeTV now.

I do Philo, which just went up to like $29 from $25.
I do Youtube TV during football months.
I try to only be subscribed to one of the others at a time. (Peacock, Max, Netflix, Hulu, Paramount etc). There is no way that I have time to view that much content.
I also have Prime, but mainly for shipping. Ive been considering cancelling it due to slow shipping anyway.

amazon, netflix, youtube tv, max/hulu/d+
those stay on pretty regularly and probably run me about $100.
i'll rotate through Apple, Peacock, Paramount, Starz, PBS, etc to watch what i want then bounce.
we've probably equalized around the $100 Dish/Direct times BUT there's way more things to watch at this point than there ever was in those days.
i very rarely strayed from local channels, espns, amc, tcm, ifc, usa, tnt, and tbs.
