“I think we are making a mistake…There is a real risk that the public doesn’t understand this or why it’s necessary…”

nypost.com

J.D. Vance’s political instincts are right here. Who the hell appointed the U.S. as harbor police in the Red Sea? Unless a U.S. flagged ship was attacked, we have no business getting involved in a proxy war between Iran & Saudi Arabia/Israel. This is NOT what was promised.

If it's a mistake where we blow these people to dust, then it's not a horrible mistake really

They've been firing at our ships for over a year while Biden had the Navy sit like ducks. One of Biden's first acts as POTUS was also taking them off the terror list that Trump put them on.

Freedom of navigation is immensely important to our economy (and the world's). Thats why Vance was also saying its just another instance of Europe not pulling its weight

Houthis recently fired 18 missiles at an aircraft carrier. They fricked around and need to find out, what kind of deterrence does the US have if we let a bunch of desert people shoot at us and shut down one of the busiest maritime trade routes?

He saying it because that trade route has minimal importance to us, but is very important to Europe and the ME.

Find another route then. It is a war zone. Picking sides in these ancient sectarian rivalries is a fool’s errand.

Who else thinks that it is a good thing our leadership group is not full of monolithic thinking?

It's part of the deal we made with Europe and the oil producing states after WWIi. We (US Navy) would ensure secure shipping lanes so as to advance international trade and to promote security

That’s what stood out to me too. Vance seems to be a true believer and has the intellectual underpinning to know why he believes as he does.

They are sending a second aircraft carrier to the Red Sea. They are constantly bombing Yemen which in turn is responding by firing missiles at Israel everyday. 10s of millions if not 100 million dollars spent everyday.

The US has a piece of every pie. Its not that its incredibly significant to us - its not - its the precedent of letting a stateless terror group dictate terms and eat some of our pie

Peace through strength relies on deterrence. In order to keep the threat of deterrence real, adversaries need to know you are serious - that means beating the frick out of whoever tests you

The whole reason Russia invaded Ukraine is because Biden removed deterrence from the equation. Biden was saying not even a full month before Russia rolled in that the only thing they would face is economic sanctions

Since Oct of '23, those Houthi's have been attacking US flagged ships and...others. My baby girl and her carrier returned from that region last October. They were repeatedly attacked by the Houthis. It was not bottle rockets and Roman candles being launched at them, either.

Yet three years later, hundreds of thousands of dead Russians, ZERO dead US servicemen, and negligible territorial gains by Russia, it’s time to pull the plug.

The West (read, the US) backing Ukraine to a stalemate with Russia is the greatest example of soft power maybe we’ve ever seen.

And you boners want to totally capitulate and call it off
