Its a fine signing for a 1 year deal. He can play ok.
The issue is you hope he gets better because he was relatively average (I believe Penning-ish PFF scores), and you hope he can play LG, because, and I could be wrong here, I believe he played mostly RG when at G?

I reckon he’s conceding he butchered the cap, is content with mostly minimum signings, and will hopefully push more money into next year

Could be waiting to see how it goes... if the team is playing well, use the cap at the deadline. If not, yeah, use it to cut Carr next season

He could also be insurance at RG for when Ruiz inevitably gets injured.

Same but younger and less injury prone. He will be an average starter at best, but an above average backup.
