Jay said in his preseason press conference that Skip told him no matter how many pitchers you think you can rely on, you really only have 8 on a good team.

Jay confidently went on to rattle off a dozen bullpen arms that he thought could defy Skip’s thinking on that—many of which contributed to last night's 9H, 7R, 7ER, 5BB, 1K, 101 pitches, 56 strikes performance in the final 3.2IP to blow a lead against the 10th best hitting team in the conference.

Hopefully Jay hangs around Skip a lot more to learn a thing or two.

Actually Skip said 8 pitchers in total. He wasn't specifying relief pitchers.

Right now, we are at 4-5.

Opportunity awaits for a few more to step up.

Skip isn’t wrong. But it really only applies to post season.

When just about every kid is throwing 95+, arm care becomes a major priority. You need more than 8 guys for the extent of a full season. One or more would inevitably go down with arm issues if you solely relied on 8.

You’re right but Jay took it as an opportunity to tell the media he thought he had double digit relievers he could rely on.

Skip didn’t have the transfer portal.

Taking into account midweek games especially, you’re right

The context of his answer he gave to the media was that while Skip said you only need 8 arms or maybe 10 on a really good team, Jay believed he had way more. He made a point to bring up Skip’s belief and how he thought this staff could defy that thinking

Good point. But I also think it is Skip alluding to the fact that a lot may look good throwing bullpens. Dependable dogs in nut cutting time is a different story

Do you genuinely think you know what you are talking about when you post? Do you know you are an over emotional bitch that doesn’t have the slightest clue what it takes to be a coach?

What else did he say about their lack of experience, Burrie? Or are you just going to leave that out

Agreed, hopefully a couple or a few seize the opportunity. I see potential in some if they can improve a few things.

You don’t think Jay wants more reliable pitchers?

You are implying Jay had a chance to get more all SEC pitchers and said nah I’m good.

He signed the number 1 recruiting class and number 1 portal class.

He literally did exactly what Skip suggested and got everyone he could. They just shite the bed in their first test. No we know and will work on it.

If it was so easy to have a perfect bullpen everyone would do it.

So who are the eight? You are implying that the relief pitchers CJJ tried last night are not reliable (instead of reliable guys who had bad nights). OK, so who can we rely on?

Ayanson and Shores have to go more than 4 or 5 innings each weekend.

In the clip, Jay said he agrees with Skip about it

He then just listed a bunch of guys that he hopes can contribute. As others have said, before postseason you have to play a lot of games.

It is pretty amazing the lack of pitching depth nowadays. I guess it’s NIL and the portal

Nobody wants to be a 3 or 4 when they can go be an ace at a smaller program. Sunday scores around the country are ridiculous. Guys throwing meat

Another thing not talked about is that the transfer portal has actually made things a lot harder for pitchers. Jay has mentioned the high scores around the league.

Everyone in the SEC has/should have 9 quality batters. If they don't, shame on them for the recruiting failure.

So you can no longer just put in a strike thrower that is otherwise mediocre to just get the bottom of the lineup out.

Everyone in the order is a threat and there are no breaks in the lineup.

Hell, Bama thought they had a steal with Brady Neal. He is batting .176 and hardly playing. A different player is playing and hitting well so they aren't forced to use Neal. And neither were we, for that matter.
