I-12 West at Hammond/Ponchatoula Exit Shut Down

Real mess, looks pretty serious. Lots of emergency vehicles there and still arriving. Consider other options if traveling.

I’ve never experienced worse on/off ramps than that location. It’s unbelievably dangerous and baffling that it’s not addressed.

I agree, and the three roundabouts one after the other creates a race-track mentality. Hard as hell to merge coming off the interstate.

The cloverleaf at I-12 and I-55 is wonderful as well.
They were laid out by traffic engineers who were born before cars.

Im not saying the roundabouts are the best solution, but its 10000x better than the chaos that existed before them.

The worst possible location for not just 1 but 2 truck stops... that entire intersection is FUBAR

It’s the same damn layout as I-12 at Airline in BatonRouge. Probably the same idiots designed that crap.
Traffic exiting and entering interstate, together, onto a full on travel lane.
For your own safety, always be in the left lane if you’re not exiting. And be prepared to react.

Roundabouts are incredibly safe, but I agree that too many next to each other creates a shitshow

I imagine 190 is going to be a mess as the primary detour route. I’m not so sure 22 to i55 north at Ponchatoula then to 12 isn’t a bad idea.

Take 190 from Covington to about Albany or 22 from Madisonville to Springfield.

Yeah anyone who's saying the roundabouts are bad never drove that SOB when it was just red lights. Talk about a traffic jam. At least now the traffic can somewhat flow

Traffic used to back up on to the interstate in both directions. It’s galaxies better now
