Of course it's Sen. Lisa Murkowski. The GOP could use this in a positive way, but noooo.

quote:

Senate Republicans want Elon Musk to stop talking about Social Security, and the Department of Government Efficiency to leave it alone.

Musk’s statement that Social Security is a “Ponzi scheme,” and his plans to cut up to 12 percent of the Social Security Administration’s workforce, are giving GOP lawmakers heartburn.

quote:

They warn that Social Security reform is known as the “third rail” of politics for a reason: Any party that touches it is likely to get zapped come Election Day.

And Republicans fear that reductions in staff and field offices will boomerang on them, predicting constituents will grow frustrated if it becomes more difficult and time-consuming to address problems related to benefit claims.

“It doesn’t help the president when you have somebody who clearly is not worried about whether or not Social Security benefits are going to be there for him” leading the effort to shrink the Social Security Administration, said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), referring to Musk, the world’s richest person.

The people will grow frustrated if pieces of shite in congress do not allow an audit of OUR government spending. And even MORE frustrated if pieces of shite in congress do not make the doge cuts/fixes permanent.

The only chance SS has to survive is to clean out the waste, fraud and inefficiency.

Even that might not be enough, but the chances go to zero without it.

I’ll go out on a limb and say SS reform is yet another thing the political class insists can’t be done that actually can and probably rather easily. I don’t know why anyone would believe anything these assholes say. In fact if they’re saying one thing you can take it to the bank that the opposite is true.

The problem is neither Musk or Trump have EVER advocated cutting Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security.

They are simply talking about the waste that goes in the management of those departments.

Maybe Murkowski should start helping out Trump amd Musk in pointing that out when Democrats lie that they are trying to cut those benefits.

Exactly!

But Murkowski is trying to turn it into a shite missile aimed at her own party.

The best way to save SS is to clean it up. No one has said anything about cutting SS for those who are eligible.

A talking point for some is Murkowski “comes from a purple state” so she has to ably toe some line between red and blue.

I’ve seen plenty of “blue” time and time again from Murkowski but I’m hard pressed to remember much in the way of “red”.

She seems like the perfect Republican…if I were a Democrat.

SS needs a reform to have some type of oversight on the disability payments. It’s an open secret in certain communities that you can get a “crazy check” if you get diagnosed with some BS mental illness. It’s complete fraud.

I absolutely hate politicians. They have done nothing but threaten and fear monger about SS for 30 years, and then when someone trys to fix it, they start screaming and leave it alone. What's the worst that Musk could do?

It is a Ponzi scheme.

It is the definition of a Ponzi scheme.

You don't want it to be a Ponzi scheme? Eliminate it and return everyone's SS "contributions" to them in a lump sum.

The wording of it all just needs to get better. Just continue to ensure that normal Social Security recipients won't he affected. I mean aside from the professional agitators at these town halls, it is mostly old people worried about their social security.
