Switched over to them because I am a friend of his parents. In 10 months, policy has gone up 15% for zero reason. Fortunately, I own my house and I am really thinking about not having insurance all together

statefarm didnt even entertain the idea of writing a home owner policy for me. i use them for auto and they've been great.

what would you like us to do with this information?

I think I heard they were pulling back on homeowners and focusing on auto. My coworker just got dropped because her house is older then a certain date.

Ouch. Where at and how old?

I just switched to them this year because Safeco increased their premiums on me by 80%. Spoke with my dad on the new policy quote from State Farm and they tried to raise their coverages on me, to which we lowered our coverage amounts to a little over our home value. It dropped the quote to near what I was paying with Safeco before their price hike. When shopping, get full details on your policy coverages and you can negotiate that with whoever you want to cover you.

Harahan or river ridge. I think built in 60s or 70s

So they just upped your premium mid-term for no reason?

An increase in premium after only 10 months? There must've been an issue during underwriting because premium shouldn't change until renewal at 12 months.

Are you aware of the implications of doing that? Without knowing the full story, it sounds to me like you may have chosen to insure your home for under 100% of replacement cost value which, if it's under 80%, will frick you at claim time. Make sure you're not insured for less than 80% of your replacement cost value.

They didn't increase his premium mid-term for no reason. Chances are there was some frickup during the underwriting process and they're making up for it now. frickup=incorrect home information like sq footage, materials, foundation type, etc. They may have found the frickup during the routine inspection they completed. This inspection could've been done via a drone while he was at work or it could've been a full, complete interior and exterior inspection if he has a high-value home. Bottom line is his agent 100% knows the reason for the increase mid-term.

Exactly. They can't just decide to charge you more mid-term for no reason.

Probably got his renewal in the mail at month 10. Increase may not be due until the annual renewal date.

They wanted to insure me for 150% more than what my home is actually worth in rebuilding costs. I'm not rebuilding this old home if it came down to it.

Same here..twenty years ago when I moved into my house, they would not insure homes in Mississippi. Now, they send me something weekly wanting my business.

It's not for zero reason (yes, it sucks). They will go up on a whole with everyone (for reason) that has nothing to do with whether you yourself filed a claim or not.

It's 10 months. They probably just sent him a notice that his rates were going up at renewal.

most likely the case here, as most people are over reacting drama queens that are too lazy to actually gather all the information before over reacting.

State Farm and Allstate are by far the two worst companies to have your homeowners with and it's not even close.
A friend relationship is not a reason you should have your house insured with a certain company, it should be based on coverage. If a storm hits, your friends parents aren't going to do you any good.
