West Coast band playing Philly one year after their "Semi-Charmed Life" breakout. Jenkins in his prime, aura is off the charts here but his ego eventually kept him from being a true superstar. Cadogan still in the band before the breakup, one of the most underrated guitarists of that era. They were never the same after he left. Crowd appears college aged, the girls seem to know the words but the fellas don't.

Great song, one of the top under-the-radar tracks of the last 30 years in my opinion.

If you know this track, then you’re a “Side Four” believer like me…

It’s a shame Jenkins blew out his vocal cords late on this tour and was never truly the same singing live. Cadogan was an integral part of the sound, including on Blue but it all changed quickly.

The late 90s were a strange time that didn’t age well but the last 3 tracks of this record were a life soundtrack for me late in HS. Motorcycle Drive By gets much of the attention but Background is extremely good. Thanks for the flashback

Nice. Yeah those 3 tracks are killer. Brings me back to those HS days as well, and still sound great today.

when it comes to that debut album, or hell just TEB in general, I think most of the general public probably just assocaites them with Semi charmed life/jumper/hows it gonna be. One time about 10 years ago I was at a garage sale and they had that CD on sale for $1 so I thought why not!?

Man, I was floored! Right out of the gates with losing a whole year, I thought "damn how have I never heard this before!?" Thanks a Lot, Burning Man, Background...all absolute fricking bangers.

Unfair joke warning!

insert genie/3 wishes setup

Wish 1: wanna play guitar

Poof! Acoustic around his neck he's strumming proficiently.

Wish 2: a decidedly mediocre singing voice.

Weird one, but sure. Poof!

Wish 3: I WISH YOU WOULD STEP BACK FROM THAT LEDGE, MY FRIEND!

Disagree, wish we could go back.

Late 90s was beastie boys, lauren hill, jay z, Madonna, oukast, flaming lips, red hot chilli peppers, slim shady, dr dre, NIN, creed, TLC.

Also the best Limp Bizkit album, best blink 182 album.

1998 gave us back that azz up and still not a player.

A lot im missing. The boy bands and Britney were popular then.

Blur

Top 10 albums of 99

You are probably a liar if you dont know songs on all of these albums.

Backstreet Boys – Millennium
Britney Spears – ...Baby One More Time
Shania Twain – Come on Over
'N Sync – *NSYNC
Ricky Martin – Ricky Martin
Christina Aguilera – Christina Aguilera
Santana – Supernatural
TLC – FanMail
Kid Rock – Devil Without a Cause
Eminem – The Slim Shady LP

Their debut album is so good it’s ridiculous and still holds up today as far as the production goes. The 3 ending songs on it might be the best 3 closing songs for an album as I’ve ever heard. Motorcycle drive by is a top 10 song in my personal life I’ve probably listened to it thousands of times. They’re still fun live even if Stephan is kinda douchey and weird.

How did I miss this topic?

Phenomenal song. In fact, that whole concert is killer. Will occasionally jam to it while at the gym.

Oh what could’ve been had Jenkins not kicked Cadogan out. Those two were quite the team. Along with Eric Godtland ghostwriting some of the lyrics…

This is like a Rolling Stone “best of” list.
You killed the music industry.
You did.

Such a shame this band wasn’t able to maintain the quality. Love the self titled.

I think out of the vein and blue are excellent albums. Not quite as commercially successful as self titled but some very good quality

Don't care what anybody says, that's one of the greatest albums of all time.

Yea the deep cuts on that album are just as good as the top tier songs. All three of those are killer.
