I started watching it last night. Its bizarre. They gave Chris Pratt his marvel personality with some extra corny jokes. It has a really strange story. We are somehow supposed to buy Millie Brown as a middle schooler early in the film. She then goes from sweet to Sarah O Connor in an instant. I couldnt finish it

She was my favorite part of Terminator O’Gill and the Little People.

Electric State was fine. Looked good, story meh. Was unimpressed for 300+ million budget.

How can it be a bomb when everyone that watches it already has a subscription?

I agree this one wasn’t $300mm good but I liked it.

If you liked Gray Man or Adam Project it should resonate. Fun, lighthearted in the right places, pulled the heartstrings in the right places, feel good, etc.

Honestly my biggest complaint is the soundtrack. It wasn’t awful but just didn’t line up with the 90s feel of Champagne Supernova in the trailer. That sounds dumb but it was honestly the biggest let down.

For S2S fare, I’d give it 7/0.

It can't, in terms of box office, but people here often refer to tv shows as "bombs" or "bombing" when there is no clear way to quantify that status.

I think it's interesting to look at Mickey 17, an original sci-fi film that will undoubtedly be considered a bomb, and The Electric State together. The budget and marketing of Mickey likely cost a bit more than half of Electric State. Mickey will recoup at least some of its investment in the theaters, and then it will make money on ppvd, and go through all the licensing windows studios have to wring as much money out of a property as is possible. Netflix doesn't construct their films for direct profit, and there will be no way to know how it affects their finances, but if it ends up being #1 on the netflix top 10 list for a few days (a list curated by the service), people will consider it a success.

Just watched it, honestly, I just found it boring and I really like Chris Pratt. I enjoyed the tomorrow war and sat through the last Jurassic debacle, but this one, I feel asleep at two different points in the movie.

So we pretty much all agree Chris Pratts character was fricking that robot, right?

It was "Ok"
It was too long.
The acting was mediocre.
The robots were actually really well done.
I would never want to watch it again, nor do I care about the part 2 tease.

This feels like a money laundering scam or some commitment to show Hollywood they will spend money, there's zero chance they actually think they'll increase subs by 2.5 million for this?

The same movie could have effectively been made for 1/2 the price, but whatever. Was it a bit mid and convoluted? Yes. But it was also visually impressive and not a cataclysmic failure, like Rebel Moon.

I get it. Folks wanted a more authentic delivery of the story. You put that much money into bringing it to the screen, why not give the fans what they want? Same as always.

But they went for the most G rated version of this story, and got what they were aiming for.

It’s probably my favorite Netflix original in the last year. I’m not listening to the haters.
