I have seen this kid catch some flack on here throughout the season. He has the makings of an effective Saturday starter contrary to popular belief. Walk rate, strikeout rate, batting average against are all good to great. It seems that teams string together hits against him in waves with some of it being bad luck. Fangraphs advanced metrics seem to back this up.

.349 BABIP
62.9 LOB % is very low
1.54 FIP (better indicator for pitching performance than ERA)

I look for him to have positive regression to the mean.

Pitching in general seems like a staff that has electric stuff, but learning to control and avoid the big innings. Seems like a young group that can settle in and be dominant.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen actually, and his breaking balls are where he shines; his fastball location is where he gets in trouble, especially last night when he was leaving it up, they didn’t miss it

There are times that he’s unhittable. I could see him getting hot when he settles in and having a dominant stretch of starts

Agreed, fastball location is key along with pitch calling and sequencing by Yeskie.

I like Cowan. Flipping frisbees up there for strikes. Hitters are lost. It seems like he could do it all weekend.

Slow starter sure. But these metrics take into account all his innings pitched which is what we are discussing.

I’m neither high nor low on Eyanson. I’m in a patient, let’s see it play out mode. All his metrics are against non SEC hitting.
The next two - three weekends will tell us all we need to know on Eyanson. 3 - 4 weekends against SEC hitting will tell us everything we need to know if he’s a true 2nd starter or if he will be a key bullpen piece.

Not sure if you’re saying that he should take over a starting role but I like Cowan where we have him. He’s the closest thing to Griffin that we have this year. Innings eater with a nasty change up. Good guy to have in your bullpen that could either come in early to lift a rough starter to salvage a game for 3-4 innings or could give you 1-2 innings multiple times throughout the weekend

Do you know what optimism is? If you couldn’t tell, I’m an Eyanson fan. Reading comprehension…

He is really good when he’s ahead in the count. So far, his troubles show up when he is 2-0 or 3-1. Full counts not so good yet.

Part of it is they are still trying to figure out what his most deceptive pitch that he can reliably throw for a strike. That will be variable from in each outing but that data will eventually emerge.

It’s not a dumb take. He’s a slow starter and leaves a lot of pitches up. Against good teams they will destroy him unless he gets the ball down. He really hasn’t faced a good team yet but he will next Saturday
