Ok, so my daughter (10) decided that she wants to play on the junior high team next year. This will require a lot more practice. My wife gave me the green light to build a simulator in my shop. She knows Ill probably use it way more than my daughter, but the beacons have been lit. Its on!

Things I have:
Clubs
Net
Hitting mat
Smart TV

Things Ill need:
The Simulator- Im looking at the Rapsodo MLMPro
MLMPro premium membership or E6 Connect or Apex

Am I missing anything?
Should I look at a different SIM?
Is the projector WAY better than a Smart TV?

I am at the very beginning of this, but want to make the move before my wife sobers up.

A gaming computer to run the simulation software.

Some kind of padding/carpet between your net and the mat to keep the ball from bouncing all over.

Buy the best hitting mat you can afford. They’re hell on elbows, even if you are shallow coming into impact. I lost half a season due to tendinitis caused by the mat.

I have a Bushnell Launch Pro with ball and club data set up in my shop. I don’t use it nearly as much as I thought I would.

Everything I have looked at is saying that I can use my iPhone or iPad and cast to the TV, but Ill triple check on that.

I didn't think of that, but I do have some carpet in the attic that I was going to pitch.

Definitely. Do you have extra padding under your hitting mat?

Yours might work that way. I had to get a computer for mine. A friend had one lying around so it didn’t cost me anything.

I tried everything. Finally splurged on a fiberbuilt mat and it seemed to help. Also cut way back on the amount of balls I was hitting. May have been that and not the mat

You're missing the most important part - What's the budget?

The answers will vary drastically depending on what you're trying to accomplish versus what you're willing to spend to do it. With less money, you'll have to compromise on launch monitor accuracy/data, immersion (screen/projector/enclosure), quality hitting mat, etc.

I had the MLM2Pro and ran it from a newer Ipad to get better graphics cast to the TV. I now have a screen with projector and bought the square launch monitor but also had to buy a gaming laptop. The Square LM also work with an Ipad. The square is for “indoors” only but it is an optical LM at the same price point as the Rapsodo. IMO the Square LM is much better and requires less room and also connects to GSPro. The square is also heads and shoulders above the Rapsodo in short game. I can’t remember the brand of hitting mat I bought but it was $$ from Carls Place but it reacts much better and saves your elbow. I put those puzzle piece gym mats under the hitting mat for extra padding. If you’re going to have the LM on a TV, I also recommend the Apple AV adapter over casting. Cliff notes:
Square LM - with protective cover
GSPro
Apple AV adapter
Hitting mat like Sigpro
Padding blocks

I really recommend a camera based LM if setting up indoors. BLP or SkyTrak+ are good options.

I wouldn’t buy this. I have one and like it, but it’s more launch monitor than sim. It’s cool to be able to pack it to the range and gather stats.

Gc3 or launch pro is probably the best setup for under 10k that will get you really accurate results. I have the launch pro and love it. Pair it with GsPro and you have a full fledged sim setup

There is a lot of resources on the internet that will help you find what’s best. There are Facebook groups dedicated to sim builds and you will get a lot better info than TD golf board. One thing that I would not skimp on is the mat that she (and you) will be hitting on. A cheap mat may lead to elbow problems so you’ll want to get a mat with under padding that will absorb the impact better.

Check out Carls Place website as well. From my research, they are one of the best “sim in a box”.

I’ve owned a mlm pro, garmin r10, mevo plus and now a BLP. Word of advice, get the BLP. It works every swing. I’ve never questioned a hit. I was against using a gaming pc but when I switched that was it. I’m done with iPads and iPhones. You can get a used BLP for $2k with club data and cheaper without. It’s worth the extra money trust me. My 8 and 5 year old hit on the sim almost everyday. I got a $600 used gaming laptop on eBay and it works perfectly with the Forseight and GSPRO software.
