Leaving out of MSY in april and will have a really tight window and was hoping to park onsite instead of doing a shuttle. what is the best parking option to reserve that will be the shortest(fastest) walk to the american airlines check-in counter?

I've never had issues with parking in the garage at MSY. It's not a far walk at all to the terminals.
I think the long term garage lot is even a shorter walk.

I read that short term parking was the shortest route to the check in area. I know it costs a little more but this is just a 3 day trip so an extra $12 is less important than having a few minutes to spare.

I forgot about the 3rd floor walkway

The Short Term Parking Garage features 2,190 spaces as well as a walkway directly from the 4th floor of the garage to the Ticketing and Check-in area on the 3rd level of the terminal.

Just to clarify, the walkway is on the 4th floor of the parking garage and it puts you into the 3rd floor of the airport terminal near the check in counters.

I arrived at 558am today, parked second floor short term, precheck, stop at smoothie king, and at gate A3 by 612am

I arrived at 10:15 AM and parked on the roof of the short term garage because that was the only open spot(s). Crazy how fast that filled up!

Reserve a parking spot on the website ahead of time. Short term lot is easiest to get to and from the terminal but truly at most a 5 min different from the onsite long term parking. 100000% recommend reserving a spot though. The only flight I’ve ever missed in my life was when I didn’t reserve a spot and both lot were full

the new MSY is the easiest airport to park and fly out of I’ve ever used. And same on the arrival and return home. They did a phenomenal job designing it

Reserve a parking spot

How does this work? Where do you reserve? Where do you park?
Very interested in doing this going forward

Parkmsy.com and you can select any of the three lots to get a spot at. Need to reserve more than 24 hours before you plan on arriving

Design yes… cutting down on total parking spots… bad idea.

When I got there it was single digits available on 1, 2, and 4. The third floor had 70 something but the roof had 300+. The capacity of short term sucks.

I’ve only used long-term and it’s an easy walk to the terminal. Watch out for parking being sold out ahead of time. Look at flimsy.com
This gives you spot status and reservation information. You have to reserve 24 hours before the start of the reservation.

Short Term is $26 and exits directly into the ticketing area and AA is the first counter.

Long Term is $22 but takes reservations. This is also at the terminal but exists into baggage claim and you'll take two escalators to get to the AA counter.

After that, you would only have economy parking at the old terminal or US Park - both of which require a shuttle.

I use the long term garage almost every week, and occasionally short term when long term is full.

Technically, there are a ton of on-site parking spots, just those at the older terminal require a (very crappy) shuttle ride. I also think they should consider building another parking structure on part of the surface lot, outside of that they put almost the max amount of spaces that are feasible on a small site with one terminal building. At some point there is a limit to the number of parking structure/spaces you can put within walking distance of the terminal.

plenty of parking at the terminal
short term
long term
flat lot
valet

outside the terminal is economy garage and the plethora of private lots; both immediately accessible if you take the old airport exit (williams) instead of Loyola

I ended up doing short term. I have to leave carencro at 6:30am to arrive at Msy in time for a 10:38 flight. I’m gonna take 90 so I don’t have to fight with any Baton Rouge shenanigans so that probably gets me to
Msy at 8:45 to 9am. As long as there is no major backup on 310 I should be fine, but if something happens every minute will count.
