When LSU Upset Ole Miss

1989 was not kind to the Tigers. Although we had a talented roster with Hodson at qb, the Archer era was beginning its slide. We got to play a fired up Ole Miss team, fired up because that is the season Chuckie Mullins got hurt. However, the Tigers played their asses off and took a big huge lead. Then the comeback started. This was a great column written about the game.

My first season going to games, and first season getting really invested. Jimmy Young made the game saving interception. I remember this well

That’s for sure….those were some lean years.

Almost the complete opposite of the Kyren Lacy catch

I was at that game in Tiger Band. The 89 Tigers were so snakebit, I was actually surprised when Young came down with that INT. We had lost so many close games in so many ways. It was a very emotional game.
I dropped some cash into the boxes they were passing around to help Mullins' family.
GEAUX TIGERS!

When the game ended, you played Great Balls of Fire
Go look at who the receivers were on that team. Just think if Favre had been throwing to them instead of playing at USM. Willie Green, Pat Coleman, and of course, Wesley Walls. All pros.

I was also at the game, beautiful bluebird day with an early afternoon kickoff. My brother was a RS-FR at Ole Miss and suite mates of Chucky Mullins. My parents were decked out in UM attire sitting with the UM parents, and I was wearing P&G cheering in the LSU section.
Game was crazy as LSU scored 5 TD's on their first 7 possessions enroute to what many thought was gonna be a blow-out. Up 35-10 early in the 3Q, LSU offense went scoreless and turned the ball over on 3 consecutive possessions: fumble - INT - INT. Poorly underthrown ball by John Darnell and great pic by Jimmy Young secured the Victory. Karl Dunbar, Corey Raymond, Verge Ausberry, and the late Marc Boutee (RIP) were all on that team.

I thought it was in the 50's by then.
Archer ruined Hodson's last two years at LSU.

Remember when people could write. They don't teach that anymore.

That was not an upset. LSU was a slight favorite, but Ole Miss nearly came A-L-L the way back from a 35-10 deficit to pull the game out of the fire on their last drive

Thirteen years before they won their celebrated SEC West championship, and 27 years after their last full SEC championship.
1990 was the dark ages for both Ole Miss and LSU football

Got a link ? Heading into that game Ole Miss was 6-2 with losses to #8 ARK and #13 ALA. LSU was horrible and had a 1-6 record and lone victory was against the Ohio Bobcats. No way LSU was favored playing on Ole Miss’ campus.

LSU was a 2.5 to 3 point favorite, IIRC. LSU was 1-6 but they lost close games to A&M, Florida St, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee who were all ranked when we played them. Even at 1-6 LSU wasn't chopped liver.

True, but the win against the Aggies in Death Valley was a game I’ll always remember.

That was one of only two noteworthy performances by LSU during the 1989-1994 era for LSU. Huge upset of a 9-3-1 Aggie team, thanks to Todd Kinchen's stellar performance that night
