I've wanted to start this thread for a few days, but I didn't really want it to disintegrate into the usual talking points. But after seeing the thread regarding Secretary of State Rubio stating that 83% of USAID contracts for his department have been canceled, I think it's time to have the following discussion:

1) For those who don't think DOGE was a good idea, tell us why. Please be specific.

The media is solidly against any cut in USAID funding because the Federal government was paying a large portion of the media’s salary with our tax money.

I'm probably one of the few people here who isn't on Facebook. Don't care for it.

That being said, there is a contingent of people here who aren't on board with it. I think the most often-heard complaint is that it won't really accomplish anything. (Not my view at all, but that's what some here have stated).

First, if you only have one point, you don't have to number it.

2) If we don't spend federal money turning mice trans nobody will do it in the private sector. It's just not something that can make a profit. You have all these mice that want to be trans but they lack resources. I think that's exactly what the federal govt. was put here to solve.

USAID was funding all of the left wing causes, BLM, Antifa, any and all protest.

It just goes to show the "causes" of the left are not organic and not popular if you have to pay people to be outraged.

This along with millions if not billions of dollars be laundered back to Democrats is the real reason they hate the cuts.

Do you think some opponents of DOGE would hold a different view if, say, Ron DeSantis were President?

I don't have a problem with the CONCEPT of DOGE. Finding and eliminating waste is a good thing.

My concern is with the IMPLEMENTATION. They threw open a door and fired a blunderbuss into the room, probably doing as much damage as good. They should be using a scalpel, not a blunderbuss.

- "move fast and break things" like Musk did with Twitter doesnt work with federal government

- programs that Musk doesnt agree with politically is not fraud

- firing people in a haste then re-hiring them is a sign of of incompetence

- the accountability emails were a sign of of incompetence

- no businessman should be involved in the hiring / firing of fed goverment regulators overseeing his industry

- shady government legal matters where another employee is listed as the DOGE administrator when its Musk

Clinton did this 30 years ago in a better manner.

I honestly don't know if it's being done well/effectively or not.

But given other administrations don't attempt it and all of many enemies are screaming about it, I'll take whatever I can get and we'll see how it works out in the longer term.

Watching people on the left try to snarkily make fun of the attempt to cut the wasting of their own tax dollars, or root for space exploration efforts to fail...it's just amazing. These people are just broken and miserable.

I was going to have a 2nd question, but I decided it wasn't needed. Thank God I'm not being graded, because I don't qualify for DEI.

On here? Absolutely. Ron isn’t a bad guy but he’s nowhere near Trump in regards to capabilities. The fact no state/governor has came out swinging trying to audit their own state is interesting. Most Ron supporters though support DOGE, the most ignorance comes from the left but the left and bots with TDS are no different.

Ironically, the only thing it didn't fund was the Jan 6 protestors as that was pretty organic, but it did fund the 100's FBI operatives that were amongst the crowd.

In my opinion, a scalpel strategy is a run out the clock strategy.

I'm fine with mass firing and rehiring anyone worth a damn. They had the perfect opportunity to respond directly to DOGE justifying their job with 5 bullet points. I would have taken that opportunity to not only list 5 accomplishments, but to also justify my position in a detailed post script format.
