Them letting the trade happens in the first place tells you they do not care at all about that team outside of the revenue it provides. And don’t seem to care a whole lot about that part either

I don’t believe so. The franchise after all wants to relocate to Las Vegas.

If they gave two shits about basketball in general much less the team they would have nixed that stupid shite and fired Nico as soon as he mentioned it.

They were probably having second thoughts about 5 minutes after it was announced and they heard all the reaction.

Pretty sure he was forced to make it. The Press conference was such a tell as him and Kidd looked uncomfortable spewing bullshite to justify the trade.

They should have bought another team that doesn't have the Mavs fan base. If they really want to move, that would have made it easier.

No Texas teams would want to move.

Of the three towns in Texas that have teams, Dallas is the most conservative. Texas closed their liquor stores a 9 PM when I lived there. What made them think Texas was ready to allow casinos?

Was in a bar and grill here in Dallas. Passed by the bar and asked how points Luka had tonight since they had the Mavs on. Couple frick yous were thrown my way. Mission accomplished.

The last 40 days of the Mavericks franchise will be written about in books & articles for the next 50 years. It is stunning what has happened & that it was actually allowed to happen. It will be a 5 to 10 year rebuild at the minimum once they dump AD & Klay after the season for picks. Nico Harrison & Patrick Dumont actually make Kamala Harris seem competent if they truly thought this trade was for the good of the franchise. .

There are one of two things that happened here. Either Nico decided on his own that Luka was not who he wanted to lead the team & he made the idiotic trade or he was told by Management to be the fall guy & trade him to not have to pay the max contract after next year.

They aren't moving to Vegas. They might get an expansion team but it won't be the Mavs. DFW is the 4th largest metro market in the country. We will find out over time what actually happened to cause this all to happen. Was it an inside job to help the Lakers like I believe? Remember Nico Harrison was Kobe's shoe rep at Nike & Rob Pelkinka was Kobe's Agents so they are tight. We will see.

I think this was the case, so in a classic case of "malicious compliance" he made the worst deal he could get management to accept; that's why we didn't get Reeves or Knecht in the deal.

I agree, unless the NBA had some deal to immediately give Dallas an expansion team (I doubt that, though).

I still refuse to believe the GM had any say in it. Maybe he made a bad deal in what they got back but I'm 100% convinced the decision to trade Luka was from the top.

Remember - every transaction has two parties. The current majority owners are in that position because of Mark Cuban.

I often wondered what Atlanta thought when they picked Luka and then traded him for Trey Young. But that somehow pales in comparison to what the Mavs just did with their generational player.

Every, and I mean EVERY time it looks like the Lakers' window might be closing after a decade of mortgaging the future, some team decides to send them Pao Gasol in exchange for Kwame Brown.

If you only care about revenue you don't trade your fan favorite and alienate your entire fanbase.

Having Luka would have meant having fan approval and satisfaction locked up. They threw it away "to win a title"
