I thought LSU had to end its entrance based on race, gender diversity etc. I have a nephew who made a 518 on MCAT and can't get into NOLA. I'm no expert on MCAT but that score is over 95th percentile what I can see. Maybe LSU NOLA hasn't read the supreme court ruling on this stuff.

What do you know about the people who WERE accepted? What are their MCAT scores? What are all their grades?

If you want to pretend that chicks and POC aren’t getting preferential treatment in med school admission, you are welcome to that delusion.

The MCAT is important but there’s more to the application than that. The interview is really important too.

Good point. He might have said something like “there’s two genders” in his interview.

They asked a gender question to one of my daughters’ friends. He didn’t give the PC answer. He didn’t get accepted.

Can you imagine the waiting room times if all doctors were black women?

You’re racist for thinking that’s important.

You’re imposing your Western view of time onto their actions.

That is an exceptional score. That alone should get him in almost any med school. I find this hard to believe, unless he has poor undergrad grades or bombed his interview.

It’s important to avoid landmines in the interview, but mainly not having good motives for medicine or lacking passion can tank your application. Medical school requires so much of your time and dedication that if they don’t sense it’s what you really want, they won’t take you no matter your MCAT score. MCAT scores can secure interviews and push you over the hump to acceptance, but they have to like what they hear too. No idea what he said or didn’t say, but if you don’t get in with a 518, he may have to ask himself how he answered some of their questions or what aura he put off

I asked this question. Apparently, NOLA doesn't publish their scores. I didn't know that was legal either. He doesn't know all the people's scores who got it, but he does know that his score is the highest of anyone who took it.... He could apply to Ivy League schools with this score. He needs to be in NOLA for family reasons. He sent score to 2 other schools outside of NOLA and got in pretty much immediately. I told him to apply to Tulane but he said Tulane is big time on letting in preferred students. He will still apply there. Just what we want a bunch of diversity Drs. And, it really isn't fair to the qualified Drs who happen to be from one of the preferred groups. Maybe Dr. Tate still leans a bit on his Phd dissertation?

Right. You should lie in the interview when they ask politically motivated asinine questions. That’s what you’re saying, right?

You’re not saying that they shouldn’t ask politically motivated asinine questions.

It is not. Med school is extremely competitive.

With a MCAT score like this you need "networking".

Have you seen proof of that score? People tend to inflate these types of scores when they’re retelling a story

Good point.
He may have blown the interview but I doubt it. He didn't show up in MAGA hunt with camo pants on for the interview. And I know he took interview prep class. But, who knows he may have come off as insincere or something like that.... Mom is a Dr and he has always wanted to be one so I doubt it but he may still have blown interview.

518 is solid. No reason someone shouldn't be able to get into NOLA with that.

Average at NOLA is 510 and at Shreveport is 507.

Although a family friend's son had trouble getting into UMC (took 2 years) with good scores (512, UMC average is 506) and 3.9 GPA. He did get admitted for the fall though. His family blames DEI but he was able to get a ton of shadowing hours in his two years off.

Basically you have to be perfect if you are limiting yourself by geography. You generally need a few hundred volunteer hours, shadowing experience with a physician, superb extracurriculars, a perfect GPA, a high MCAT and you can't frick up the interview.

It's a terrible system and a terrible way of choosing who gets into medical school.
