quote:now, the rankings
Winning the World Series (WS): 9 points
Losing in the World Series (WSL): 6 points
Losing in the Championship Series (CS): 3 points
Losing in Division Series (DS): 2 points
Losing in Wild-Card Round (WC): 1 point
The scoring system also incentivizes division titles (+1 point) and penalizes prolonged losing cycles, docking teams (-1 point) each time they lose at least 90 games in consecutive seasons. Add up the point totals from 2000 to 2024 and you have the franchise rankings. It’s just simple math.
1. Yankees - 83

Thoughts? Interesting to see the Angels holding onto a top 10 spot from their run in the 2000s
Tigers are a little lower than I thought they would be

Giants at only 45 is surprising but they're feast or famine out there.

Winning the World Series should be worth way more

Idk. Can't be too overpowered to the point where it screws a decade of suck just because you won once

Surprised the Marlins are that high.

Also kinda surprised the white Sox sneak into the middle third

The Angels are 9th though

All the humidor did was take a good bit of the unique fun out of watching a game at Coors.
Going to Rockies home games during the 1990s was a blast.

Yeah, the methodology seems fair enough. For example, the Royals had 2 great years, but also had fourteen 90+ loss seasons. That's tough to wipe out with one World Series win.
The Angels on the other hand at least had several division championships with playoff series wins, along with narrowly avoiding consecutive 90-loss seasons.

So the make the points system come out to put Yankees on top? Interesting
Now do money spent per team to be in this mythical rankings and divide by placement.

The CWS were a fluke in 2005.

Ring culture poisoning sports
Baseball has 162 games, how can you only rank via post season successes
Should include points for over 90, 95 and 100 wins

F that, if my Pirates (and same for Vikings in NFL) win one title, I wouldn't care if they went 0 and ___ for the next 9.

I think the vast majority of fanbases in all sports would make this trade.
For example most would want a one and done magical season over losing in the div series 5x over a decade.

And it's fair to feel that way. Was more talking about how winning a single WS title in like 2007 shouldn't overpower sustained, division winning, playoff contending success when it comes to stuff like this I guess

Which is why I'm surprised the Braves are that high considering how mediocre to bad we were from 2006-2017.

Surprised the Rays are that low. The early 2000's were rough, but they've done great for a small market team since the first World Series appearance.

Thoughts?
I think the methodology was created to fit the list they wanted. MLB Cash Cows on top. Period.
The fact that $$$ spent per win was not a factor in the methodology is the dead give away.
