When was last time/year Saints were BELOW the Salary Cap and who was GM ???

I'd say even that was marginal. A lot of franchises flirted with the edge pre-COVID because the revenue, therefore the cap, kept going up quickly each season.
And we will have to kick the can again this season, whether that significantly impacts 2026 remains to be seen but we should be in a much better cap space by 2027 unless we completely whiff on the draft and then overspend in free agency with 2027 capital.

This will not answer your question, but back in 2011 or 2012 the Saints (and 3 others) received minor infractions for front loading contracts during the uncapped 2010 season (due to CBA negotiations).
When I went to find the details to include above, I saw an article from January 2013 discussing how they will need to rework some deals before the new season; nola article so couldn't see the details behind the paywall

When was the last season prior to 2024 that the Saints won fewer than 7 games and were out of the playoff picture with two games left? Every year and every move have not ended up well, but on balance this franchise has had a 20 year run like few others. Brees gets a lot of the credit, but Loomis put all the complementary pieces around him. Some of you are such a spoiled arse fan base.

Saints ranked 6th most winningest team
Another snap shot, since 2013 we are tied for top 10.
And since 2019 we are 13th.
Not every year is going to be great, but we have avoided being a laughing stock for about 20 years now, and really since 2000 minus the Katrina season. Loomis took over in 2002 iirc.

Identify the first season we went into a Over-Cap-Situation… then had to restructure contracts to get below the Cap….
So we could start a New Saints Season UNDER the Cap.

My reply wasn't to you but rather the person saying how we haven't had a truly bad season in forever, which I supported with the stats.
As for your question, it literally doesn't matter because the cap is extremely maleable. If you could extend the time you had to fully pay your bills indefinitely so you could use the money on other stuff you would do it too.

It is extremely important because it shows how effectively management manages their salary costs.
If you are over the cap ….. year after year after year after year after year (I’m Dizzy)...
You can’t manage finances at all !!!!

The ONLY time this hurts is if the cap stays stagnant or goes down, which has only happened once in an extremely outlier year, and we navigated that year just fine. Every year the cap continues to balloon, so there is nothing wrong with taking money from each consecutive future year.
It's literally stupid to not do it, and more and more teams are following this method.
Only the ones with cheap owners avoid doing it because they don't want to pay the real dollars associated with doing it.

I do want Loomis gone, but because of his FA additions and draft choices not panning out at an acceptable rate the last few seasons. Cap wise? There's more than one way to skin the financial cat, and he just has a preferred method.

Loomis is not making FA signings and draft picks on his own. The head coach has a ton of input into it (more so than Mickey if you are being logical). Ireland is also the one heading up the draft stuff much more so than Mickey.
People can point to Loomis all they want, but he isn't the sole decision maker, just the one that has final say if he chooses to impose that (which he very much doesn't lord that power over his head coach and asst gm, rather working in collaboration with them).
The main one at fault for the state of the roster would be the head coach, because Loomis has always let them have a major say in the players they are going to be fielding. That guy from the past 3 years is now gone.
If Loomis is at fault for anything, it would be putting that dumb arse in control in the first place and then letting him run it 3 years. Allen was a great DB coach, a good DC with a MAJOR fault (3rd and longs), and a horrible head coach. But he had now corrected that mistake. If people want to hold Loomis to the flames for Allen I totally understand. All the rest of the criticism is quite undeserved.
