You’d have to be insane to coach CFB over the NFL at this point.

All things being equal.

In the NFL you don’t have to recruit, have a decent idea of what you’re building at a certain position group, and likely get paid the same or better as a position coach.

You could have half your group leave on an annual basis with NIL/portal because they think they’re better than they are or for any number of reasons that get in a 19-20 year olds head.

I don’t blame the guy for not wanting to deal with that bullshite.

Counter point.

In college, you can buy a way better roster than most everyone else right now.

Coaching with a way better roster probably way better.

That’s true in some situations. But it just seems like just a crap shoot, especially if you’re in the division/conference we’re in.

It also doesn’t address that you have to get on the road and recruit these little primadonnas AND try to retain the ones you think you’re doing a damn good job with that you already have on roster.

Right but if you’re picking between a fringe championship contender and the shitty Saints where coaching staff turnover is almost every year when you suck, I’m probably rolling with LSU

People will blame Kelly but Texas just had two of its best assistants bolt for the NFL, and their NIL is insane. Says plenty about how exhausting it’s becoming for coaches. Not that I feel bad for them as everyone in the sport is overpaid

It used to be you had more job security in college as college were less likely to make . That's really not the case any more. Turnover in college is almost as frequent as in the NFL. The NFL is a grind and having consistent success is more difficult because the talent is equal. But the quality of life is better. NFL coaches actually get a real offseason away from football. They don't have to spend hours and days on end recruiting, fundraising, "babysitting" 18-22 year old, and now, constantly playing GM in perpetual contract negotiations.

On no planet is an NCAA DL better than an NFL DL.

I’m confused by this statement. You actually think a college roster is better than a NFL roster? Please don’t tell that you are one of those people that think elite CFB teams can beat the Cleveland Browns and the Tennessee titans.

Good NFL coaches stick around, regardless of win/loss record. Guys are generally well established when entering the NFL coaching scene, and so even if they have a horrible record, they still get picked up by other teams.

It's not like that in college. Dudes come on the scene and disappear just as quickly.

College coaching sucks and is for the young, motivated coaches

You have to babysit a roster of spoiled kids with their hands out all the time.

I think it depends on each coaches preference.

The NFL has more games, less pay per game if you are comparing upper echelon D1 programs to NFL.

NFL requires living in bigger cities in most cases and more travel.

In college you can turn your roster over, can be good and bad, and recruit players you want to fit your system while in the NFL you are pretty limited and stuck with players for years.

My key selling point for the NFL would be coaching 8-10 professional men instead of helping raise/advise/coach ~15 kids while also having to evaluate/recruit another half dozen and a few more from the portal each year. Overall, you deal with a team of ~60 men opposed to a team of ~120 grab bag of boys/men.

From personal experience, 26 year old me would've beat the shite of 18 year old me three times a day on general principle. Hell, 57 year old me still wants a shot at that fricking moron.

Meh, depends on the program. You can make 4M a year winning 6 games at Mississippi State for 5+ years right now. NFL is cutthroat. You get 2 years max to show you're heading in the right direction.

I remember when the pros just started free agency and thought this is crazy.

Then the college game said "hold my beer".
