Mexico's President proposes constitutional reform regarding the US investigating or pursuing action against the cartels.
It's telling that Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum hasn't appeared willing to cooperate with Trump/US in dealing with the problem of the cartels. She continues to blab about Mexico's sovereignty, rather than offering any assistance in dealing with them. It's clear she's either scared or has been bought by the cartels.

quote:

Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday she will propose constitutional reforms aimed at protecting Mexico’s sovereignty after U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration designated six Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

quote:

Sheinbaum said during her daily press briefing Thursday that Mexico also wouldn’t allow outside involvement in investigations or prosecutions without authorization and collaboration of the Mexican government.

quote:

Former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Sheinbaum’s predecessor, had already written into Mexican law limits to how foreign agents could operate in Mexico, limiting their independence and requiring that Mexican authorities be informed of their movements. Sheinbaum proposes enshrining those limits in the constitution.

It's highly likely any information shared by the US with Mexico about the cartels would find its way to the cartels. If Trump's idea labeling the cartels terrorist was to motivate Mexico's government to begin cracking down, it hasn't worked. It will be interesting to see this play out.

This won’t end well for her in many ways. I was in Mexico a few weeks back, the Mexican people really like Trump. He helps their economy, by helping our economy. When Trump is in office, the American people spend more money in Mexico.

Trump will have to play hardball with her. If she is in the pocket of the cartels he will have to put enough pressure where she atleast caves in privately and let's us operate there freely to eradicate those SOBs.

Any self respecting decent person can't honestly support the cartels. So, at some point she will cave if Trump bares down hatd enough.

The laws exist already just not in the constitution.

She's just putting on a show.

So she's equating Mexican sovereignty with protecting cartels?

I think the most likely military conflict during the Trump administration is with Mexico. This could be really interesting. American voters are sick of forever wars, but I think there will be a lot of grass roots support for military action against the cartels/Mexican government if it comes to that. This isn't some far away place halfway across the globe, this is on our southern border and it's pretty clear the Mexican government has been highly complicit in both the trafficking of illegals into the US, as well as facilitating the narco trade with the cartels. This could get really ugly really quickly.

I am shocked.

You mean Mexico isn't going to just let us run military operations around their entire country and bomb their citizens without input? Who could have seen this?

This is certainly a situation where muh fight was counter productive and we seem to be losing ground on doing something rational and productive against the cartels.

So what is your solution genius? It’s obvious the cartels own sheinbaum.

The goal is economic development in Mexico to raise their SOL to make alternative labor options more palatable to the population. That's the only real long term solution. We can't win this war militarily. It would be like the WOT.

It's not obvious. It's possible, sure, but Mexico is just coming off a long, bloody civil war with the cartels that they lost. I'm sure she doesn't want to be the President who makes that mistake again.

You don’t think the Mexican cartels are running military operations and killing our citizens on US soil?

I am shocked that you can’t see past your leftist rose colored glasses. I’m also not surprised that you would take the side of Mexico/the drug cartels over the US, commie piece of crap
