Anyone been to Great Britain recently?

I've posted before, but we're looking to plan a trip for 2026 to England/Scotland. However, with the current state of things in that area, is it still a safe and open country, or has the bad elements impacted enough of the island to affect my vacation.
The alternative would be to vacation somewhere domestic or look at maybe Italy or another western European country that isn't full of immigrants.

I'm not really sure what you're referring to. But yes, it's very safe and open.
I go over there every year or so, and this past summer I took my family along, including my two daughters (9 and 7) and we had a wonderful time.

Muslim migrants making a mess of the country. Not sure how contained it is to certain areas or if it's more of a "as long as you stay away from the bad parts of town" which wouldn't be touristy areas anyway.

Yeah, you'll be fine. There've been a few stories, but you know how the media can be. One or two situations can be made to seem like a consistent theme, talking heads spewing bullshite, etc., all to help solidify a specific view point.
There's bad shite everywhere. Some places have more than others. The UK is a place where, like you said, if you're a tourist, you won't even notice.

There are certain places within cities you'll want to avoid (in London and Manchester at least.) Pay attention to what is going on in places like Trafalgar square, for instance, before assuming you're going to walk through it with no issues. It might be the beginning of Eid, or some protest against colonization or some shite. Otherwise, you'll be more assaulted by leftie Euro bullshite like bus ads that drinking animal milk is stealing from animal babies than anything else.
There's your typical late night thuggery near drinking streets on High Street, but that's nothing new.
And you thinking

Big cities in France, Belgium, Germany, all the same as London, but there are some subway stations you do not want to accidentally get off at in Paris and Brussels at least.

Don't go scaring people away from Trafalgar Square now

Thanks for the info. I'll keep planning for Great Britain 2026 then.

I'll be in London in June of this year, so will post something while there if it helps...are you going to London? You should definitely be fine in Scotland.
Good luck.
We were going to do Germany (Munich)/Austria this summer, but decided to go the London route instead as we're taking our daughter on her first Euro trip, and felt an English speaking one would be better.
With all the shite in Munich the last few months - we're happy with the decision made.

No it will not impact you unless you travel to the shithole parts of a big city.

That actual incident was in Leeds, right before I walked past the dude in front of the train station wanking it at 0630AM.
And OP, the "frick you I'm Milwall" terrorist attack occurred 100 yards away from me on the other side of the river in London. The bouncers said they wouldn't lock the doors or encourage people to seek shelter inside, "Because that wouldn't be very British of us." So there's that.

In 2023 we ran into a Muslim parade. We just backtracked and walked to the next block and crossed behind it. Over by Picadilly.

Oxford and Windsor were lovely. Maybe going to places outside of London might keep you away from any concerning areas.

Most major US cities are way more shite and dangerous. The British are hilarious, courteous and hospitable. England and Scotland are wonderful places to visit. Go, enjoy.

How many stabbings and terror attacks have there been, New Orleans included, since 31 DEC 24, in the US vs. the EU? We'll wait.
Walking into the ninth ward or the South Side of Chicago is probably close to what you'll get trying to walk through certain neighborhoods in London, Brussels, and Paris. And since most people would rather be shot than stabbed, advantage, 'Merica.

Went 6 months ago. It’s fine in most areas. If it looks sketchy or rough just stay away, like any big or small city. We saw no issues at all. The roughest area we saw was near Waterloo Station during the day, which just not a “refined” as the other parts of London. Watch for pick pockets.

quote:The UK should be fun for your daughter, but probably still best to unlearn this scared of the news mentality. "All the shite" in Munich is likely entirely unnoticeable IRL. It's a huge world. shite happens. Bad shite. Munich is not really one of those areas where shite is bad enough to actively avoid it.

(BTW, Germans speak pretty good English
