Bird/Magic Rivalry....

Lot of discussion about Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark and that conflict.
Folks have asked: Why the hate on Angel Reese? It made me think about Bird/Magic.
I am in no way comparing Angel/Caitlin Clark to Bird/Magic in basketball skill. But in terms of two college stars who entered the NBA or WNBA -- here is the huge difference.
Bird and Magic embraced the opportunity to compete and be rivals. They didn't act like the whole experience was a burden to them. Maybe the WNBA should try that.

The issue is that Reese isn't nearly the player that Clark is.

Bird and Magic respected one another.

The league seems to have a commissioner with a good business sense, she was the CEO of Deloitte, but she's fighting an uphill battle considering how the snowflakes got butthurt when she tried to hype the rivalry BIrd/Magic style.
I don't give a shite about the play in the WNBA but I think the business is interesting and the problem is that everybody involved with the league thinks it can succeed and they can all get that they want without any compromises. Business does not work that way.

Bird/magic changed the NBA forever.. it was must see TV for a decade. They both thrived in it. The Clark/reese thing isn’t even close.

Growing up as a child of the 80’s & watching the Celtics-Lakers rivalry was amazing. It was basketball at its finest.

It's not close other than: Two players who were stars in college entering a pro league together as rivals. I realize it's not close as far as the basketball talent or long-term impact.

And for all the talk about people bandwagoning on those two teams, Its pretty understandable. Entertaining teams that were on TV back before every game was on TV just naturally became popular.
The Braves being the only MLB team a large portion of the country were able to consistently see on TV, and them being very good with some personable stars, did the same thing for that franchise in baseball.

It’s not close on any level.. were you even alive back then???? Yes that matters.

You should know by now that you can't make a person have a killer instinct, and ultra competetive. The NBA didn't make Larry Bird and Magic that way. They were already like that and brought that to the Lakers and Celtics.
In Clark and Reese you have two polar opposites. Clark is a silent assasin, who appears to just wants to play and be quiet. Reese wants to play the villain and oppressed at the same time. Wants all the spot light and notoriety but can't take the critics when they come her way. And she sucks.

She does talk trash. The difference is that Clark can back it up compared to Angel.

So why do so many people pretend she's this humble silent assassin? She's a killer and let's people know.
Does she have thuggish behavior, PJ?

Juju would be a better option than Angel.
But damn she only a Soph

Clark/Reese is more like the Michael Jordan/Lavar Ball rivalry. One is trying to cling to the other for fame. the other is the goat.

According to some here if you don't love Angel Reese and think she's the greatest basketball player of all times better than M J and Larry Bird combined youre a racist

Unfortunately, the Bird/Magic rivalry eventually gave way to this:
