This has to be the absolute worst book to movie that I have ever witnessed.
I love reading books that have movie counterparts and comparing the 2.
Almost nothing in the movie happens in the book and vice versa.
The only major similarity is the nuke going off in the usa (not even in the same city as the book)
I would love to see the thought process behind the producers, writers for how they came up with this garbage.

Anyway, yall got any other good/bad ones?

So get this. When the movie went into pre-production in 1999/2000, the producers changed the antagonists of the story (Arab terrorists) to neo-Nazis because they felt like Islamic terrorism was overdone. And then 9/11 happened.

But you're right. It was a terrible adaptation of the novel. Tom Clancy absolutely hated it. Clear and Present Danger wasn't the best adaptation either and neither was Patriot Games.

I don’t understand taking a popular book and then completely changing it. If the story is what made it popular, either do that, or don’t do it at all.

Agree, but still light years better and closer to the books than Sum.
I mean in the movie Ryan isn't even married to Kathy, they're just hooking up/pre dating.
In the book they've been married a decade+ and have 2 kids.
There are just too many things to list that are just completely and oddly changed.

Yep. I don't mind minor adaptions or changes to fit screen time or whatnot, but at least stick to the source.

This was my favorite Tom Clancy book as a young teen (I read a bunch of them). And I was so excited when it came out on the big screen. Then so disappointed.

It’s actually not a terrible movie on its own, but about all it shares with the book is the title and that a nuke went off at a football game.

The Wuthering Heights movie from the 90s is also a pretty terrible adaptation.

Those jets wouldn’t get within 100 miles of that aircraft carrier in real life

But I like the bomb scene and the end where they execute everyone to Nessun dorma

The very beginning of the first Bourne movie, where he is pulled out of the Med, is about the only thing in all three movies that have anything to do with the books.

I've never read the book, but this was one of my favorite movies growing up.

Yep, I always felt like “Red Storm Rising” would make an epic movie, but they’d probably screw it up.

Clancy got asked about the significant changes in interview and basically said “i dont care as long as they pay me.”

Without Remorse was probably my favorite Clancy novel and they destroyed it.

Meanwhile Amazon has done a great job with Reacher and pretty loyal to books.

Makes no sense

It would almost certainly have to be a miniseries if they were even trying to be loyal to the material.

I'd watch the shite out of that.
