For the past 3-4 weeks, I've been experiencing significant pain in my right knee when bending it, whether I’m squatting or sitting down. Walking causes minor discomfort, but only when fully straightening my knee (almost overcorrecting it).

I’m not sure what caused this, other than age (I'm 50) or possibly yard work. I haven’t taken any Motrin or Ibuprofen yet—though I suspect that might be a good place to start.

I’ve been using a knee brace, kinesiology tape, and a topical cream (Icy Hot), but none of these have provided much relief. My right knee cap also pops quite frequently. I've tried stretching it, and while I can, the pain is fairly uncomfortable.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any insights on what could be causing this or suggestions for pain relief would be greatly appreciated! I’m trying to exhaust every option I can before scheduling a trip to the orthopedic doctor.

Are you fat?

Obesity can cause knee problems fairly early due to strain

I can't tell any difference between my knees in terms of swelling. They both look proportionate and roughly the same.

I imagine my right knee must be inflamed, which is why I start taking Motrin or Ibuprofen.

I could probably stand to lose a few pounds, but I don’t think the first impression people would have is that my knee issue is related to my weight.

hot to the touch?

years ago I had some knee pain that wouldn't go away, I was still playing a lot of sports and didn't think anything of it, one day I got a pretty high fever, flu like symtpoms, I'm a tough guy, it'll pass, after about 12 hours of that my gf, wife now, took me to the ER, did a shite load of tests and determined it was sepsis, told her that I would have been dead by morning if she hadn't made me come in, took several days of IV antibiotics and a few months of oral antibiotics to kick it, it started out as nothing, might be worth seeing a doc

Go to the doctor. Get an xray. You may have nothing that an anti inflammatory won't fix.

I get shots 3 times a year in my left knee. Holding off replacement as long as I can

Does pushing on the soft little crater part cause excruciating pain temporarily? If so it may be bursitis. Mine would flare up if I started squatting too heavy and lost form.

Voltaren topical gel is the greatest thing ever. I highly recommend it for your 50 year old knees. My 60 year old ones certainly respond well to it.

In my case (59) had similar symptoms a couple of years ago. Dr said inhale some arthritis developing and would likely need a knee replacement some day. Also need to lose weight. What he didn’t say but what I did is work to eliminate inflammatory foods (esp sugar). It made a world of difference for me

Glad you went! Other than my knee, I feel fine. No health issues whatsoever - haven't been sick in years.

That's great advice, knee pain or not.

There are many things, ligaments, cartilage, meniscus, etc that can go wrong with a knee.
I know this all too well.
