CHICAGO (AP) — To those concerned about billionaire Trump adviser Elon Musk’s access to sensitive government data, his tear-it-down band of young techies doing that work is an unregulated threat to privacy. The view on the right is much different.

Voices influential in conservative politics describe the crew of engineers, most of whom are in their early 20s, as among the world’s best minds sent to save the U.S. government from bureaucratic bloat.

It comes at a moment when young progressives have criticized the Democratic Party for sidelining them and as the party’s hold on younger voters is slipping, particularly among young men. Republicans are using the contrasting images as a marketing strategy.

Charlie Kirk, founder of the group Turning Point, which has organized voter turnout efforts for Republicans, called them “young prodigies” and “all-stars” with IQs that “would melt the charts”

quote:

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sparred with Hillary Clinton on Musk’s social media site X over the Trump administration’s actions and the plan to have DOGE help upgrade aviation safety.

“They have no relevant experience,” Clinton said in response to Duffy’s post about getting help from Musk’s team. “Most of them aren’t old enough to rent a car.”
Duffy responded sharply, saying, “We’re moving on without you because the American people want us to make America’s transportation system great again. And yes, we’re bringing the 22-year-olds with us.”

Republicans’ elevation of Musk’s engineers is a reflection of how they were able to chip away at the younger demographic in last year’s election.

quote:

“Democrats have plenty of young people in consequential jobs,” said John Della Volpe, director of polling at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics. “They’re just not as good at letting us know about it.”

He said watching the DOGE engineers have a real world impact can be an important signal to young people. That could further hamper Democratic efforts to recruit a younger generation that already was questioning what the party had delivered for it.

“Republicans are seeing a weakness in Democrats through young people, and they’re taking advantage of it,” he said.

Basil Smikle, a Democratic political strategist and professor at Columbia University’s school of professional studies, said many disaffected young men in particular may see DOGE as evidence that they can have power. He urged Democratic leaders to step out of the way of young people and diversify their messengers.

“If you don’t, Republicans are going to go back to the same playbook and beat us every time,” he said.

They turned into the party of the old, rich and out of touch.

They saw themselves become what the hippies hated.

We’re the cool team now.

I don’t think he was talking about generations. I read this as the peace, love, hippies from the 60’s and 70’s who trended Democrat have now become the initial person they stood up to fight when they were hippies.

Not sure it has anything to do with generations but focuses on the different mentalities of that generation.

The dem pundits are all delusional. They don't realized that America has had it with far-left loons. They don't understand that MAGA isn't just about Trump. It is a movement with a lot of young and intelligent people with common sense who love their country.

Democrats in for a world of hurt with their logic that 22 year olds can't contribute....they need to move away from the message especially when it comes from theouth of a dinosaur.

Exactly.

Yeah Lafonda and Miguel and pookie are sooooo trustworthy at the DMV. They have access to everything and a lot of them have criminal records unlike our DOGE prodigies.

My 17yo daughter and I were talking on Saturday night.
She is socially liberal on many things.
Not cuckoo, but fairly typical in her thinking, within her age group.
She is very impressed with Trump's approach to women's sports, rainbow folks, and immigration.
She asked why illegals were allowed to come here, begin a life and such, just to be shipped back out.
I explained about Cloward-Piven, and the scheme to have a huge bloc of blue voters after amnesty.
I could see here getting more and more pissed off, as it clicked to her.
The injustice of using people's lives like toys really got to her.
Then we moved on to govt waste and grift.
She is more aligned with Centrist/Right ideology than in the past.
She has been listening to me and other people in her life than I thought.
She is off to LSU in the fall, and I will continue to arm her with facts, to combat the things she will have thrown at her there.
My baby girl is going to be ok.
She's not MAGA, yet, but her ability to reason, and look past her emotions makes me proud.

So let me get this straight, due to all of the positive changes Trump's moves are making bots like you have to go back to divide and conquer in order to try to stop his success and phenomenal personal choices.

Funny how a guy from a TV show is hiring dependable people that are younger than himself and ready to take over.

He through them is working for us while you useful idiots are trying to derail.

.... thus proving why some old boomers still don't trust you wet-behind-the-ears little bitches.

I tend to agree with this take. My kids, daughter especially, were quite left-leaning coming out of HS. Lots of indoctrination in the public school system; hell, she even complained that we were too rich at one point because everyone at school was giving her crap about her "privilege".

A little maturation and the idiocy of the Dem party over the last four years have flipped her 180o.

It's funny how the leftist boomers who are crying about how their generation had it best lived in a time when it was overly majority white and illegal immigration had yet to become a national issue.

So they want to go back to that don't they?

It's hard to believe that marrying your high school or college sweetheart, moving to the suburbs, and having 3 kids would make you the counter-culture now.
