FIL Dealing With Contractors

My FIL is in his early 70s, he has been doing some work around his house and just had a metal building installed. No matter how good the contractor does their work is subpar or even out to get him. He had an electrician come out and run power from his house to the shop, now the electrician screwed him and didn’t do the job right. He bases everything off of a shop he built about 35 years ago.

As a dude who grew up on a farm basically dirt poor, but now works in a decent white collar job, I share your father-in-law's sentiment with almost every single person I paid to do something I don't have time to.
The contractor who built my house was a goddamn idiot, the Mexicans he hired to do his framing work we're fricking retarded but fast, the white guys who did the insulation were fricking retarded but fast, the plumber was fricking retarded but fast, the electrician was slow as shite and did a quality job even if he drink no less than two dozen beers while he wired my house, the guys who did the siding were fast but fricking retarded, the guys who did the drywall did a quality job, the painters were fast but fricking retarded.
Are you seeing a trend?

I think I can see part of the issue here. He's now older and either can't or don't want to do the work himself and he's not happy about having to pay what contractors get for their work today, so he has to complain about it.
If they are doing a sub-par job, then it's up to him to voice his complaints to the workers and not let issues he thinks are wrong pile up. It does no good for him to bitch about the work after the workers are gone for the day.

My 78 YO MIL complained that the AC guy charged her a $125 service call fee. He changed the capacitor out and told her the service fee was cheaper than charging her at rate plus parts, and she was just right around the corner from his house so he didn’t mind doing it.
She said her dad never charged people that much.

You can pay for quality but its not going to be done fast and then you will bitch about the cost and how long it took
