On Thursday, Trump said it was time to try to balance the federal budget.
"Balance budget now??? Let's give it a shot. Lots of money coming in from tariffs. Do it!" Trump wrote in all caps in a post on Truth Social.

Right now our deficits are running 7.5% of GDP.
Push for a balanced budget. That’s a deficit of 0% GDP.
If Trump can accomplish a congressional budget half of 7.5% of GDP that would be a huge accomplishment and would be a great start to fiscal responsibility.
