President Donald Trump is pressing anew for a balanced budget, pushing Congress to do something that it hasn't done in two decades.

Trump previously said he wants a balanced budget, but his promise to extended the tax rates in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act could make that a challenge for both the House and Senate. Extending the tax rates could cost about $4 trillion.

On Thursday, Trump said it was time to try to balance the federal budget.

"Balance budget now??? Let's give it a shot. Lots of money coming in from tariffs. Do it!" Trump wrote in all caps in a post on Truth Social.

It can be done.

There will be a lot of bitching and moaning from both sides though.

Oh well.

Gonna have to address the welfare state .

But, it's a noble goal.
Let's at least try.

More like Trump talks about it offhand.

He's doing a lot of good things, but he's not going to balance the budget.

Right now our deficits are running 7.5% of GDP.

Push for a balanced budget. That’s a deficit of 0% GDP.

If Trump can accomplish a congressional budget half of 7.5% of GDP that would be a huge accomplishment and would be a great start to fiscal responsibility.

Just invoke the name of Clinton.

If he could do it, surely Trump can do it better, he just needs to find his Newt.

Hypothetically, sure. It's just math.

Is the political will there for it? Not even close.

Last time was what… Clinton Presidency and a huge push from the Gingrich-led House? Contract with America.

Point to the trade war he’s started.

Or is this just the new version of, “he’s going to get us involved in nuclear war” from his first term?
